A Critter Invasion in the Monster Dungeon!

Production in Chris Ryniak’s studio is in full swing once again, filling up with piles of bulb-eyed pals for us all to squeal over. Watercolour monsters, gouache critters on cardboard, along with a small congregation of little resin critters are all in the works, and the latter has me particularly curious, indeed. Just look at those little bums!

Question is, what ever is all this for? Well, there are a couple notable events CMR is involved in, namely Circus Annual in December and Migration with Amanda Louise Spayd in March (*wink*), but only time will tell when these guys come out to play. So stick around, for plenty more is sure to emerge from the Monster Dungeon!

Mikee’s Mail Day: Pushead x Secret Base Siamese Werm!

Now that I have been doing these for awhile I took a second to look back and reminisce on some past posts. Some really wicked toys have been shown, but nothing by the master. It may not be known to most folks in the CP community, but I love Pushead. That said, I have gone on a binge recently, so be prepared for some Pus!

This week’s toy is the Siamese Werm. In last week’s post we discussed Secret Base and their amazing ability to reuse parts of toys to create something new and fresh. The Siamese Pirate may be one of my favorite examples of this.

Wanting to do something fresh with the Pushead Captains and Pirates (above), Secret Base decided to just lose the legs and combine them, like so:

The Siamese Pirate sounds silly but actually works really well; the figure allows for a fresh take on existing characters, and the Siamese Werm just ups the ante. By taking the ready-made stump arms and putting them on the Siamese Pirate body, you’ve made something that is already kind of creepy, sad and terrifying at the same time. You know it’s quality Pushead when it’s this creepy.

The Siamese platform has also made great use of the vinyl marbling technique, where you take two colors of vinyl and mix them to create that awesome mottled effect. This only adds to the odd look of the Siamese and really makes for an awesome combination.

Well I got mail a’ plenty on the way, so who knows what we will see next. Although I do know I got a couple of scurvy dogs ready to walk the plank…

Until next time, live that 24/7 Toy Life!

Colin Christian’s Mesmerizing ‘Glowing Pussy’ Sculpture

  • by

Colin Christian seems to be on a bit of a tear: earlier this week we had a look at his incredible Cosmic Godhead Cthulhu sculpture, and hot off its tentacles is his Glowing Pussy, a wall-mount sculpture of a bodacious babe who changes colour with a click of a button. You can also have it stay on one particular colour, or change the pattern. This little minx is packing all sorts of tricks!

Similar to Cosmic Godhead, Glowing Pussy is an edition of 50 hand-cast heads at $200 per. Each comes signed by the artist. Contact Colin via email at colin@hotboxdesigns.com, on Twitter or via Facebook to secure yours. I wouldn’t wait on this one; his Snack Cakes always sold out in a blink and these are ridiculously affordable with LED lighting to boot.

Check out the video below to be dazzled by all the radiant hues of Colin’s Glowing Pussy!

Jimmy Palmiotti’s New SEX and VIOLENCE Graphic Novel on Kickstarter!

  • by

Following the immense success of his Queen Crab and Retrovirus projects, comic giant Jimmy Palmiotti returns with another exciting Kickstarter series called Sex and Violence. The 64-page graphic novel is about crime, lust and redemption as it follows two distinct, yet similarly-themed stories written by Palmiotti and Justin Gray, and illustrated by Jimmy Broxton and Juan SantaCruz. As the title of the book suggests, it is intended for an adult audience.

Here’s the scoop, straight from Jimmy:

The first story, PORNLAND, OREGON, is written by Justin Gray [ All-Star Western, Retrovirus, Creator-Owned heroes] and drawn by Jimmy Broxton [The Unwritten, The Engine] .  When his runaway granddaughter is murdered, Rick embarks on a bloody trail of revenge through Portland’s internet porn community only to discover he may have inadvertently had a role in her death.

The other story, GIRL IN A STORM, is written by Jimmy Palmiotti [ Painkiller Jane, Queen Crab, Jonah Hex] and illustrated by Juan SantaCruz [ The Resistance, Fantastic Four, The Hulk] and is a story about a NYC female police officer that becomes fascinated with a lesbian couple that has moved across the courtyard from her apartment. What started out as a curiosity out of boredom has become a full-fledged obsession that starts her questioning her own life.

Backers who pledge $25 or more will receive the book with an exclusive, Amanda Conner cover variant, signed by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray. Your name will also be printed in the book. Other awards are also up for grabs, depending on the amount you can contribute.

For those who are unfamiliar with Jimmy’s work, this is a great opportunity to get acquainted before his upcoming ART OF NARRATIVE comic art exhibition this January at Stranger Factory! He will also be teaching a workshop on character creation and how to sell a project, so do our pal Jimmy a solid by backing Sex and Violence Vol. 1. Fundraising closes Dec. 13; click here for the trailer + more info!

“Congratulations, You Have Gained Immortality,” … A Commission by Doktor A

  • by

Have you ever wanted to achieve immortality? To develop an immunity to death, walk through the centuries and experience the world? Well, Doktor A has just the thing to fix you up. Following two years of experimentation, he recently completed his newest invention for one of his largest collectors: the Asphyx Enticement and Containment Engine.

The device traps the spirit of the dead (or Asphyx) and the wearer reaps the rewards. It’s inspired by character Hugo Cunningham’s iteration from 70s horror flick, The Asphyx. According to the Dok, the Asphyx appears in Greek mythology as a sort of Angel of Death. It appears at the moment of demise to seek release from its eternal pain by possessing the dying soul of its victim.

… Well, aren’t we all sorts of morbid this afternoon! For those daring enough to take it for a spin, follow these simple instructions:

The Asphyx Containment Engine is crafted from a life-size resin human skull, vintage brass lamp parts, vintage leather straps, a dynamo lighting system, found objects and a ton of materials ranging from metals, to resins to rubber. The device sits 14″ tall. To the lucky recipient: let us know if it works.

More photos after the jump!
