We’ve got a wonderful Stan Manoukian monster flavored surprise for you coming up for our big kaiju show in August – a terrific Stranger Factory colourway of his Kondo figure.

We’ll show you a picture of the figure shortly once we barrel into press for the August show, but Stan whipped up some custom silkscreened header cards for the figure, and they are looking amaaaazing.

Paul Kaiju’s Boss Carrion?

  • by

What Kind of BossMonday’s announcement of “Lost Worlds” let the world know that masters of kaiju are coming to Albuquerque, and one of those masters is the man himself, Paul Kaiju.

In the upcoming weeks, we will bring you all kinds of teasers and work in progress images from the amazing talent we have in store for the show – stay tuned!

Lost Worlds opens August 2nd at Stranger Factory featuring the incredible monsters of Paul KaijuJames GromanJosh Herbolsheimer, Stan ManoukianJoe MerrilGoccodo, and Mutant Vinyl Hardcore. Kathie Olivas is bringing the first custom Ash to SDCC in just over a week! Ash is part of the Wandering Misfits mini series coming out with Cardboard Spaceship, but this one isn’t a mini! Ash is quite large and most definitely in charge. Adorned with a nice #3, Ash has big things planned for SDCC and beyond. We’ll probably be seeing more of Ash in the future, and perhaps even more of the misfit crew!

Circus Posterus returns to SDCC to take over the Cardboard Spaceship’s booth #5346 on Saturday, July 20th!

Lost Worlds: Creatures From Beyond

large

August 2013 brings a new group exhibit to Stranger Factory featuring the incredible monsters of Paul Kaiju, James Groman, Josh Herbolsheimer, Stan Manoukian, Joe Merril, Goccodo, and Mutant Vinyl Hardcore.

LOST WORLDS showcases the incredible creatures of a variety of top monster makers in the pop surrealist, kaiju, and art toy fields. From the gleeful carousing of French artist Stan Manoukian’s alien creatures to the unsettling realism of Ohio artist James Groman’s sculpts, the roster for LOST WORLDS promises to provide creatures for all tastes.

The exhibit runs August 2nd – September 1st, with an opening reception on Friday, August 2nd from 6 – 9 PM.

PAUL KAIJU is a designer, sculptor, and painter working away at his kaiju creations in sunny San Diego, California. Known as much for his custom paint work as for his original toys such as Boss Carrion, Paul’s work is recognized as some of the best in the American Kaiju scene.

JAMES GROMAN is a sculptor, illustrator, and Toy & Animation Character Designer who has worked on everything from custom model kits to the famous Madball series. His work ranges from sculpts to comics to consumer goods, and his work is impeccable.

JOSH HERBOLSHEIMER is an artist, toy designer, and graphic designer in San Francisco. His paintings have a unique, organic style that complement his toy design while giving each their own unique style.

STAN MANOUKIAN is a Paris-based artist whose inhuman flora and fauna exude more personality and backstory than you can imagine from 2D drawings. With a truly unique eye for creature design, Manoukian’s creations are simply brilliant.

JOE MERRILL is a kaiju figure painter and toy designer whose work is quickly become a fan favorite among modern kaiju collectors. With original creations like the Diggler and the Cadaver Twins, Merrill’s work is a fresh voice in the modern kaiju industry.

GOCCODO is the working name for collaborative design by Japanese artists Shigeta and Shinpei Tanaka. With a whimsical and uniquely Japanese pop design sensibility, Goccodo brings a more childlike aesthetic to the Lost Worlds monster lineup.

MUTANT VINYL HARDCORE creates hyper detailed and gloriously disgusting modern kaiju figures. Designed in the US but manufactured in Japan, MVH bridges the gap between traditional Japanese monster making and the American desire for biggest, better, faster, and significantly more disgusting.

Things are getting big for Monsters and Misfits III

  • by

m7m3_slideSeptember will be here in the blink of an eye, and we have been keeping tabs on what the Circus Posterus artists and invited guests have been up to for Monsters & Misfits III.

I don’t think the crew had the old saying “go big or go home” in mind with this show, because I don’t think many of them would want to go back home…so they are just going big! From the looks of it, Brandt is in the process of making an epic sized white whale…scratch that – an epic size narwhal named Mortimer. Ryniak on the other hand, has taken to creating a beast so large his son could ride it to school! Don’t worry, these guys will create amazing work in all shapes and sizes, and not just miniature pony sizes.

The Monsters and our team of Misfits head over to Japan this September, and we will be keeping you up to date, as all the amazing pieces come to life!

160397bce40111e2829f22000ae9027d_7Amanda Louise Spayd is diligently working her fingers down to tiny, but adorable, nubs getting things in order for San Diego Comic Con 2013! As we reported before, the first edition from the her newly named Dust Bunnies line is a plush bee of epic cuteness named Bumble. Amanda is putting the final stuffing inside and stitches around the seams on only 10 of these little stingers for the CP takeover of Cardboard Spaceship’s booth #5346 on Saturday, July 20th. Yep, you read correctly, 10 of these bee-autiful darlings are coming to San Diego(priced at $125), but have no fear, the rest of the hive will be in her online store later after she recovers from SDCC.

We will be releasing the details on exactly when lucky attendees can get a Bumble at SDCC shortly, so just keep watching the blog, and we will be showing you some more treats in store for the con from Amanda and other CP artists.

1002772_10151778416278628_1979950962_nEven with anticipation and stress levels rising for SDCC, these two custom bubbleguts by Chris Ryniak bring a much needed snaggletoothed smile to my face. On Saturday, July 20th, Chris will be joined by Brandt Peters and Amanda Louise Spayd at the Cardboard Spaceship booth #5346 when Circus Posterus returns to the San Diego Comic Con.

Chris is bringing a bounty of creatures with him to the convention, and these two burrito filled Bubbleguts are part of the entourage for $700 each. After a long night in the Gaslamp Quarter of eating, partying, and eating again, these two will be looking for a new home on Saturday and a proper nap thereafter. We will have details soon on how we’ll be handling SDCC releases, so keep watching the news feed.

More Captivating Work by Phil Noto

  • by

Noto5Even with a painting still in an unfinished stage, we can see the power it has, thanks to the masterful skills of Phil Noto. Phil embraces beauty and strength with his work, and puts forth an unparalleled depiction of beautiful and strong women. We’d definitely like to know the story behind this one. What is she thinking? What are those markings? Is she troubled, remembering, or just pensive?

We can ask Phil ourselves at his solo show running July 5th – July 28th, with an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 9 PM at Stranger Factory. Phil is also teaching a workshop on Sunday, July 7th and there are only a couple of spaces left!.

Colin Christian’s Modtopus

  • by

colin_Modtopus_b

We have been tormented for weeks seeing the development of Colin Christian’s sculpts for his show opening this Friday at Stranger Factory. We’ve been particularly fond of this sci-fi vixen with tentacle hair, and now we finally get to see her in all her finished glory.

Named Modtopus, she’s actually more sultry and stunning than we could have imagined! Adorned with darkened black eyes, full lips, shining tentacles, and a gaze that screams “Barbarella flashback!”, this 15″ wall mount is simply gorgeous.

Modtopus, along with more amazing pieces from Colin, will be at his exhibit. The show runs July 5th – July 28th, with an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 9 PM at Stranger Factory.
