ODDysseys

Exciting New Work from Stan Manoukian,
Seymour, Maryanna Hoggatt & Andrew Bell!

Stranger Factory is proud to present ODDysseys, for the month of June, with new work from Stan Manoukian, Seymour, Maryanna Hoggatt, and Andrew Bell.

1

Stan Manoukian is an internationally recognized member of the Circus Posterus Collective, from Paris, France, known for his comic illustration, film and commercial story development, toy design and monster creation. With approximately 15 original sculptures, one large (40″ x 30″) original drawing, and several smaller drawings, Manoukian will be expanding his realm of strange and unknown creatures for the ODDysseys exhibition.

2

Australian based Peter Kelk produces artwork under the pseudonym Seymour and is known for his vibrantly eerie sculptures and intricate ink and giclee prints. For ODDysseys, Seymour’s creations will embody a sense of exploration and adventure and we will see a sculpt edition of ten, each one in an original colorway, as well as at least two larger, original 3-D figures.

3

Maryanna Hoggatt is a freelance artist in the Pacific Northwest and her impressive client roster has included Nike, Amazon, and Microsoft, though she finds herself most at home when working on her own personal creations. Through illustration and sculpting, Hoggatt has created Animal Battle, a world in which animals express the human emotions involved in overcoming fears and doubts in order to bring to life their hopes and dreams. In keeping with her ongoing narrative, Hoggatt will be providing four original sculpts, wood/resin wall reliefs, as well as prints and smaller resin figures for the ODDysseys exhibition.

4

For NY artist, Andrew Bell, ODDysseys is an opportunity to expand upon the theme of transmuted plant life, or “Trans-Plants.” We can expect to see several ink drawings, original paintings, as well small and medium resin sculpts complete with Bell’s signature style that blends a sense of humor with serious undertones.

The opening reception is Friday, June 5th from 6 – 9 pm at Stranger Factory. Some of the artists will be in attendance. The ODDysseys exhibition will run through June 28th.

Andrew Bell goes back to wood shop

813c17beaee211e3a9ac12f7f9059057_8I was all set to talk about the above image and how Andrew Bell has busted out the wood working skills when BAM he hits us with another image a day later.
10013317_10151985449561463_257260516_nNow we can really see what Andrew is up to for his show Factory Strangers coming to Stranger Factory this April.  This looks to be a portion of what stands to be an epic piece by Mr. Bell. An “extraction station” of sorts, and what is being extracted? What exactly is the fluid in this small vials, and who is doing this? Andrew is really putting the thought, time, and skill into this show. One thing we can can count on, this show is going to be groundbreaking.

Andrew Bell’s Factory Strangers runs April 4th – May 4th, with an opening reception on Friday, April 4th from 6 – 9 PM.

Andrew Bell calls in the third shift for Factory Strangers

  • by

Looks like Andrew Bell has called in the third shift for his Factory Strangers show at Stranger Factory.
8016_10151976792656463_187648159_nAnother work in progress image from Andrew that seems to truly show one of those magnificent creatures in his head. At first glance, we see what looks like a disgruntled tripod factory worker, but being an early stage of development, and Andrew being the mastermind he is, this little fella can go in a billion directions. Regardless, this sculpt has our attention!

On that note, here is another sample from the show. Not much to go on except Andrew’s description from Facebook “gates and spouts and vents and sprues and stuff.” Bring it on, Mr. Bell!

Early images from Andrew Bell

8db9d0f6a97111e3a2680a84b508c472_8We are getting some early early images in from Andrew Bell for his show coming to Stranger Factory this April.

We can see that Andrew is in his Beast Mode of sculpting. The combination of giant pants and what might be hooves, makes us wonder what manner of monster will inhabit them.

We also have a small hat (below) which in my head I think belongs to a Doozer from Fraggle Rock, but I doubt Andrew is doing that.

Still Available at Monsters & Misfits III

Strops Red

Monsters & Misfits III is still going strong until September 26th in Takayama, Japan, but all the artwork is currently online. A good portion of the show has sold, but there are still plenty of amazing pieces left by such talents as Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Stan Manoukian, Andrew Bell, Ragnar, and Dok A. We compiled a few of our favorites that are still available to purchase here, but know there are plenty more right here.

A Trio of Terror (not really) for Monsters & Misfits III

Before the show opens, we thought a final few glimpses or creatures from the night parade would be appropriate.

Leemace, by Stan Manoukian lives among moisturing wood in the forest and has a favored taste for squishie worms. If you see him during the parade, toss him some to eat on because he will be hungry.
SM2The blue Strops by Andrew Bell are getting restless. I wouldn’t want to cross these guys. They are pretty emotional.
abell_abell_strops-blue-MonstersMisfitsIII_26Doktor A has his Flagman ready to cheer on all the monsters and misfits of the parade as they go by, but what he doesn’t know is he is one of them too.
