Kathie Olivas’ Contribution to Mark Ryden’s YHWH Group Show!

Definately one of the more interesting vinyl figures to come out over the years, Mark Ryden’s YHWH has held a varied place in many collector hearts. Before this show, I’ve only seen this piece customized by our own Chris Ryniak. This might be because it is by the much coveted Mark Ryden, or maybe people just didn’t want to touch it. Regardless, now a bounty of artists get their turn to interpret YHWH at TAG Art Gallery May 11.

Kathie Olivas is one of the lucky artists to put their spin on this “magical object” alongside Frank Kozik, Lola, Liz McGrath, Anthony Ausgang, KRK Ryden, and many more. In true Kathie style, she spruced it up to epic proportions. Kathie’s YHWH is adorned and encrusted with antiqued acrylic gems with a generous helping of bunny and bee Milagros. We can’t forget the cocked bowler hat, because we all need a proper hat. The picture from her Instagram below does not do it justice, so make it the opening on May 11th if you can and gaze into the captivating eyes of YHWH.

A View of Valency

Valency_1One of Circus Posterus‘ latest members, Valency, has been hitting the brushes and Magic Sculpt hard for her show “Fauna” opening June 7 at Stranger Factory.

Our dear Valency has an affinity for faux taxidermy with a hybridized Frankenstein-esque flare that has us all in awe (like the work in progress piece above). Her work transcends into what might be seen in obscure natural history museums, curious antique shops, and other oddities of your dreams. This is only one piece still in the early creative stages for the show, but already we can see that it will be captivating!

Oliver & Mortimer Release info

It seems like we have waited a decade, but finally, Oliver and Mortimer will have a pre-sale via the CP Store on May 15th, along with a brand new print.

If you didn’t see our previous coverage, Oliver and Mortimer the Mortician are two new vinyl figures from Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters in partnership with Artoyz Paris. Below are the details:

  • We will be pre-selling all of the figures individually except the grayscale versions which are exclusive to Artoyz. $60 each with each figure limited to only 200 made.
  • We will have a handful of complete sets that will include the exclusive!
  • We will also be offering sets with a new 8.5 x11″ Oliver Mini giclee print on watercolor paper for $140 (includes a matching Oliver and Mortimer set + the print + stickers)

Now that the dust has settled from last Friday’s opening, we’re looking onward to the next round of delightful art that will be making its way to Stranger Factory. We adore Tim Lee’s illustration style, his brightly coloured girls, animals and skulls make us happy, and we are very excited that he’ll be occupying the Project Room in June.

ODDFELLOWS and PINK EYE opens tonight!

Oddfellows and Pink Eye opens tonight at Stranger Factory and we hope to see you there! Good times and miniature doughnuts are on us, as usual.

All coiled up and ready to strike, but are you ready for the Heathen Snake Skelve? Another 3D rendering from the 2013 Blind Box Mini-series from Cardboard Spaceship Toys based on Kathie Olivas’ and Brandt Peters’ familiar characters: WANDERING MISFITS.  Sculpted by the uber talented Scott Wetterschneider of Shinbone Creative.

We have shown you a few of the 3D renderings already, and we have plenty to still reveal still. Seeing these minis rendered can only mean one thing…

A Toy Maker makes a Toy Maker

ToyMakerUnderDomeLorezYou know, this was bound to happen at some point, right? The toy maker Doktor A was eventually going to make a toy maker-themed piece. It has finally happened for Oddfellows, and it is glorious! Just look at the intricate detail of this robot toy maker making more toys at his trusty workbench with a plethora of spectacles. The tiny details, from the miniature glass dome to the tiny bench clamp are absolutely  fantastic. Is this Dok envisioning himself in his own work, maybe?  A toy maker making a toy that is a toy maker is a holy grail for any Dok A fan! Luckily, Oddfellows is only two days away now.
