Zombie Versions of Brands We All Know

  • by

We can’t escape it, and it isn’t the zombie apocalypse we think will happen. We actually can’t escape the zombie apocalypse of everything being zombie. Actually, it is still cool and not crusty yet.

Ben Fellowes has taken the company adverts and logos we all have seen everywhere and converted them into the world of zombies. Here we see Playboy and Starbucks get a new re-branding with a thirst for brains, and the NBA use something other than a ball for dribbling. His work is fun and very imaginative; take a look.

Want more brains? More images after the jump!

A Double Dose of Ryniak Today!

  • by

You ready for a double dose of Chris Ryniak today? Chris has two things going on to take note of with one being online and one going down at Dragatomi.
Today at NOON EST, Steve Brown Gallery will be releasing limited quantities of Chris Ryniak’s Artist Proofs for his 3″ Kidrobot Dunny. The Dunny Artist Proofs each come with an original watercolor mini-painting of the figure, as well as the box and accessories. Also available will be Artist Proofs of Chris’ White Misfortune Cat by Playge. These cats went like a flash at NYCC, so this will be your last time to get them. The Dunny and Watercolor combo will be $80 and the Misfortune Cats $65.
Each item is limited to only 1 per household, and you can battle the masses to get them right here.

Later today, the dynamic duo at Dragatomi will be throwing a Dunny Apocalypse release party that includes Chris Ryniak, Jesse Hernandez, and Hydro 74 all with exclusive prints. The way it works is, if you order a case of the Dunnys online, you get to pick between an exclusive print by Ryniak or Hernandez. It gets better if you go to the signing with all three lads because at the signing with every case purchase you get a print from all three artists, Ryniak, Hydro 74, and Hernandez. You also get the added benefit of meeting them all, getting things signed, and hearing Chris tell jokes. Today is a big day!

More Previews of Stranger Factory’s “Subterrane” Group Sculpture Exhibit

  • by

Oh time for some hump day hi-jinx with a couple more teasers of the Subteranne group show! Here are a couple peeks at what Yosiell Lorenzo and Shea Brittain have coming down to ABQ. In just a couple days we will get to see the pieces in their proper full imagery, but for now we have an appetizer to keep us going. Yosiell and Shea are bringing lots to the show, and this is going to be epic!

Only a couple more days!

Subterrane opens Nov. 9th with an opening reception from 6-9pm. A number of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance!

Amazing Giant Gollum Installation by Weta at Wellington Airport

We probably don’t really need hype for the new film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey because it will be huge and awesome anyway, but there is never anything wrong with just doing something cool. Weta took to the Wellington Airport in New Zealand for an installation of a GIANT Gollum as a little promotion to the film and where it was filmed. From the rafters of the airport you see this monstrous and captivating Gollum diving for his fishes. It looks to be set up over a food court area which makes this actually fairly amusing. Watch out for drool down there, and watch the video of the lengths that one has to endure for this undertaking.

Now I want to go to New Zealand even more. THE HOBBIT!

A Glimpse Inside the DKE Warehouse

  • by

Before diving into the insanity of DesignerCon setup, we were offered the rare chance to check out the DKE warehouse. For those not on the west coast, the warehouse is something of legend — like the end scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark.  I’ll tell ya now, it lived up to all expectations and I did my best to sneak in photos when I wasn’t busy staring in awe!

Above is one of the inner offices where you see toys you rarely see pop up in normal conventions. Further around the offices is where you see complete sets of all the Wilkowski pieces, bones, and even prototypes we will never see.

Above is just one of many many rows of stock. This where you really start to think the Ark is hidden between 16 cases of Chueh’s Target and the five stacks of Mummy Boys.

There isn’t just rooms full of stock going to your favorite retailers, there are also specific rooms. Now next to Skywalker Ranch, this might be nerd nirvana because DKE have a Star Wars room. Yes, a room filled with lots and lots of loose and in-box Star Wars toys! Here you find a herd of At-At hiding in the corner, a box of 18 power droids, fast food promo toys, a portion of a Wookiee, and much more. It is an epic sight to see, and I pretty much hung out in here for quite sometime in pure amazement.

Not to be outdone with a Star Wars room, the warehouse also has an entire book room and a plush room. Both these scream “grab an art book and belly flop into a pile of plush to read it for a few hours.”

Once again sorry for my lack of pictures because I was being a little kid at Christmas. I did get one of  DrilOne showing off his dunking skills outside the warehouse for everyone to enjoy.

Thank you again to Dov and Sarah Jo for the invitation, and check out their blog for news on upcoming toys.

With DesignerCon wrapped up for another year, we’re now full-tilt into preparations for Subteranne, our group sculpture exhibit opening this Friday at Stranger Factory. We’ll be dropping daily sneak peeks in anticipation of the event and kicking things off today is an incredible plush Foo doll that Melita Curphy aka Miss Monster will have at the show.

Subterrane opens Nov. 9th with an opening reception from 6-9pm. A number of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance, and thus making it even more awesome.
