CP Sofubi: Kathie’s Calliope Jackalope Finished in Wax

  • by

The CP x Tomenosuke sofubi vinyl project continues to blaze along with an update from Shinji that Kathie OlivasCalliope Jackalope is now finished in wax and will be moving into the molding phase!

For those unfamiliar with the process, the cone-like extremities on each of the figure’s parts is flashing, which is used help extract the figure from the mold. It’s then cut away when the figure is assembled. As you can see, the Jackalope is a more complex sofubi figure as it comes in multiple parts: head, body, legs, ears, hat and tail.

To get a sense of what’s next, check out this video from Andy of Kaiju Korner. He recently had the opportunity to visit a small sofubi production house in Tokyo. Prepare for the chemical bath, dear Calliope!

Coming Soon: FERG’s Fr0g s002 & K11 SPOT [Retail]

Here we go again!

Hot on the heels of the explosive exit of FERG’s Fr0g s001 + K11 SPOT comes their retail counterparts, s002 + K11 SPOT. Featuring insanely sexy orange accents, s002 comes packin’ all the same toys and is ready to stir up some chaos, deep-sea style.

Fr0g includes an orange/black wetsuit, removable air tanks (they’re velcro, so freaking cool), rubber flippers, spear gun, sMP5, tanto knife, 2.0 articulated and ‘classic’ arms and removable helmet.

K11 SPOT comes sporting a doggy wetsuit with pouches, rubber flippers and removable helmet.

ETA of Fr0g and SPOT is very soon; hit up your favourite Squadt retailer for a release date. The set will likely be around $115. Sweet mother I’m stoked.

Chris Ryniak’s Bug-Eyed Bee Commission

  • by

Your daily dose of cute on this fine Tuesday comes compliments of Chris Ryniak, whose latest Bee commission is about as adorable as it is severely confused. There’s some serious wandering eye syndrome going on, here or he’s dizzy from flying in circles).

Fashioned from a Skelve body and KO bird head, this little bee is on its way to a collector with a refined taste for buzzers. ;)

KO & BP’s Frostbite 4-Legged Masao for Spectrum 5.18

And the juicy teasers continue to drop: Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters have a whole tickle trunk of tricks up their sleeves for Spectrum, including the debut of the Frostbite 4 Legged Masao. Oh the mayhem … *steeples fingers* … >:)

Pretty much loving everything about the Frostbite; the eyes, the colour: it feels like it’s been ages since we’ve seen a hand painted blue release (I’m more partial to this than the indigo resin). If this edition is being handled in typical CP fashion, a handful of the Frostbites will be at the Con, with the rest releasing online or through the messageboards at a later date. Stoked over here.

Spectrum Fantastic Art Live is on this Friday through Sunday at the Kansas City Convention Centre in Kansas City, MO. Event’s in Bartle Hall and CP is stationed at booth #919 near the main stage. CAN YOU HANDLE IT?!

Travis Louie’s ‘Three Amigos’ Stan Customs for Spectrum 5.18

Yep. This here would be the personification of shit getting real: frantic crowds, elbows flying, hopefully a good Crisco Twister wrestling match right in front of the booth. … Right. Sorry. *Straightens glasses.*

A few days ago Travis Louie hinted at having a few custom Stan Skelves with him at Spectrum this weekend and hot damn, here they are, hanging out in the Travis Louie Specter Studio, getting ready for their trek to Kansas City.

From the sounds of it, these will be the only Stan customs offered at the Con; a handful of regular ‘Ghostly’ editions will also be available. Pricing on the customs is TBD but Ghostly is $200, to give you an idear.

Spectrum Fantastic Art Live is on this Friday through Sunday at the Kansas City Convention Centre in lovely Kansas City, MO. Party’s in Bartle Hall; the CP booth is #919, near the main stage. Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Chris Ryniak and Archer Dougherty will also be there for the action so stop by and share a weird story.

*To those who cannot attend, there is Kleenex on my desk. We’ll get over it. Eventually. *Sniff* ;)

Beware, Kansas City! CMR’s Monsters are Coming for You!

Chris Ryniak‘s pint-sized army of critters for Spectrum is wrapped up and ready for action! The mini Bubbleguts, mini Crumbeaters and regular Crumbeaters are each an edition of six and customized lovingly by CMR. You’ll find them crawling about the CP booth (#919), probably nibbling on the corners of prints or sleeping in a pile of t-shirts. Be early, folks — these are always the first to go!

Spectrum Fantastic Art Live kicks off May 18th through the 20th at the Kansas City Convention Center in Kansas City, MO.

In anticipation of the forthcoming release of the next Trouble Boy Squadt, FERG has revealed a slick new teaser of the only Squadt whose origins lie in the land of the rising sun: the Yakuza-inspired No. 7 [Drifter]. It’s also been confirmed that this installment of the barnburner collab between FERG and Brandt Peters is an exclusive to Tomenosuke-syoten.

Release info will be announced as soon as FERG nails down a date with Shinji … keep it locked!

Circus Posterus x Tomenosuke: The Sofubi Figures Revealed

Cue the victory fanfare for our weary artist travelers have returned home from the magical land that is Japan! There was sight seeing, and spa soaking, fan signings and bad karaoke (still awaiting evidence), and of course, the opening of Monsters & Misfits II.

Apart from all this, the quartet also managed to squeeze in a couple of projects: namely the planning of Monsters & Misfits III, slated for Summer/Fall 2013, and also the new Circus Posterus x Tomenosuke sofubi vinyl project. Yes, ladies and gents, we’re going to smelling some fresh CP vinyl very soon — one of the first pulls of BP’s Stingy Jack is pictured above, alongside KO’s Calliope Jackalope prototype, which has just been OK’d and should be hitting production soon. Chris Ryniak also put the finishing touches on his Stinky Ginger prototype, which we first saw a few weeks back. Hand-painted resin versions will be released as well this year. In other words: we have plenty to look forward to! Release details are still emerging, so keep checking back!
