Mini Skelve Masks!

Masks oh myKathie Olivas is busy as a bee setting up for her show at Stranger Factory, and she passed along an image of how things is going! The show won’t open until tonight at 6pm, where this delightful candy palette awaits you, so hopefully this holds us over for about 30 more minutes.

If you notice(how could you not? they’re gorgeous!), there are quite a few small hanging Skelve Masks. The scoop on these gems is that they will be available in-store starting tonight, and the remaining masks will be sold in the online store mid month. What is your favorite mask?

A recap before the April Opening

For the past month, we have been bringing you updates, news, and a multitude of images from the upcoming shows by Scott Radke, Stephan Webb, and Kathie Olivas. While the last touches of paint dry and the finishing edits on the preview are done, we thought  we’d recap a few of the pieces we covered. Knowing how we operate, you might want to pay attention for some images you may have not seen yet. Just a warning to keep a good eye out. :)

It’s almost time for Kathie Olivas’ SCOUT!

OH MYYY! As George Takei would say…

Brandt dropped a sneaky pic of two hand painted Calliopes that Kathie Olivas is working on for Scout!. Look at those doe eyes and little horns, and I am loving the striped legs too, of course! It looks like they are making a short term home in the Migration exhibit before they say goodbye to their friends.

Look for more detailed shots when “Scout” opens April 5th at Stranger Factory. An opening reception will occur April 5th from 6-9pm, and Kathie will be present.

This awesome new Skelve with a bright crimson mask and “greeter” style body will be a low edition of only 15 at $240 each. They’ll be available at the SCOUT opening, and we’ll keep you updated if there will be any left for online sale. Get those F5 finger exercises in, just in case.

Welcome hand painted Mini Greeters to Scout

Mini greetersWe saw the release and quick sellout of the glow in the dark Mini Greeter a couple weeks ago, now, Kathie Olivas is hand painting some of these resin beauties for Scout!

The capes are getting adorned with new color, the noses striped, and the masks are ready to greet us all at the opening.

Red Death Vamp Greeter for Kathie Olivas’ SCOUT

Hide your neck and eat a ton of garlic(or don’t), because the Red Death Vamp Greeter will be creeping into the night at Kathie Olivas’ SCOUT.

This new Skelve edition comes cloaked, with a blood red face and pointy incisors. A true sanguine creature of the night (or day, really)! We will have more info soon on the edition size and all the blood dripping juicy details, so keep checking the blog!

Kathie Olivas just sent us an image of her “studio mess” and it looks like she is working on a gorgeous Skelve for her show “Scout“. We hope to see more soon, but we definitely love fourteen inches of Skelve.

Kathie Olivas’ No. 8 for SCOUT

Earlier in the week, we had a nice look at several pieces Kathie Olivas is working on for “Scout” at Stranger Factory this April. In that image, we saw a partial view of another painting she is working on – and now we get to see all of No. 8!

Classic Olivas character here – No. 8 is very disgruntled, with a sullen expression and discontented eyes. Fortunately, she can hide behind the ever ready Skelve mask. I’m sure this misfit will be good to go by April.

The studio is getting packed for Kathie Olivas’ “Scout”

There is always something profoundly refreshing about seeing an artist’s studio and work bench – it’s like a small glimpse into their world! We are lucky enough to have artists that openly share these images, and we couldn’t be more thankful.

Now, this brings us to the good stuff because Kathie Olivas has done just that. There is so much going on in this image! We don’t see much of the Elizabeth sculpts at the bottom, but luckily we get a good eyeful of the paintings. Kathie’s long canvas pieces have always been my favorites, and it looks like we will definitely get some for “Scout“. Devil horns, tentacle-like appendages, ruffles, tails, and a devil toy on a classic Olivas’ figure? OH MY! And to the left, what is on this even longer canvas, but a No. 9 sweet tooth figure sitting on a tree stemmed stool?

We can’t forget the smaller works below either because it looks like No.8 is reminiscent of one of Kathie’s Scavengers, and sporting a Skelve mask. And there’s a little lady with narwhal headgear peeking out below.

Only a few more weeks until the opening, but until then we are anxiously waiting for more images and news.

Worms?

IsthisawormWhat exactly is going on here in this little slice of a painting from Kathie Olivas? Tentacles, stripes, and a worm-like appearance? There definitely looks to be more on the top and bottom…or middle, we can’t really be sure. Maybe it’s kind of like the paintings in the first room of the Haunted Mansion?

So far, what we have seen from Kathie’s exhibit Scout has got us on the edge of our seats! Hopefully we will have more soon on this one.

Our enthusiasm for this show will be gently amplified through the month as we bring you glimpses of what Kathie Olivas has in store for all of us with her exhibition, “Scout“.

WIP

Kathie posted on instagram a work in progress painting with the tag “4 layers of under painting, only 10-15 more to go…”. This isn’t the finished product yet, but we can’t wait to see what this masked wanna-be tentacled super hero will look like when done!
