Cardboard Spaceship SDCC Exclusives Round 1!

  • by

The news about San Diego Comic Con is coming in faster than the Flash these days, and our buddies over at Cardboard Spaceship booth #5638 have a deluge of amazing exclusives lined up.

We might as well cut to the chase since our attention spans are short, and as we type this 47.3 more SDCC news items just got announced!

Up first are two exclusive colorways Scribe‘s Scrimshaw Mattenoots! Scribe being a local fan favorite at the con and the much-loved Scrimshaw coming back will make this a whale of an exclusive. (I had to, I really did)

Now one thing we can always count on at SDCC are the amazing shirt designs, and Lightsleepers brought their A game with these two.

Before Thanos can get his big hands on the gauntlet, our boys over at Steamer Lane tossed up the Infinity Shaka!

Who cares if it is North, South, East, or West because The Metal face will give you his very best!
No Doom here!

Mourning Apparitions

With new work from Kathie Olivas,
Lana Crooks, and Michele Lynch

Stranger Factory is excited to announce our July exhibit, Mourning Apparitions. With new works from Kathie Olivas, Lana Crooks, and Michele Lynch, the exhibition will embody ghostly projections through expressions of longing, loss, and grief as well as the playful nature of the spirits that stay behind.
KOpressKathie Olivas, co-owner of Stranger Factory, is known worldwide for her mixed media band of misfit children. We can expect to see approximately 15 original 3-D sculpts and some paintings from Olivas for Mourning Apparitions. The Misery Children will be portraying an often unspoken side of mourning: the hallucinations and hauntings that may result from a grief that is inadequately expressed or a ghost that doesn’t yet know how to let go of the bereaved.
LCpressChicago-based, Lana Crooks, is best known for her soft specimen-style sculpture. For Crooks, Mourning Apparitions is an opportunity to honor the realm of ghostly apparitions which pair well with her iconic, vintage style. We can expect to see 15-20 textile sculpts, elegantly displayed in shadow boxes, miniature museum cases, and bell jars.

MpressFigurative pop-surrealist, Michele Lynch, will also be exploring the land of ghostly hauntings with her Steampunk Souls. We are anticipating approximately 15 original 3-D sculpted figures and we might even see a few paintings from Lynch for Mourning Apparitions.

The opening reception is Friday, July 3rd from 6 – 9 pm at Stranger Factory. Kathie Olivas and Lana crooks will be in attendance. The Mourning Apparitions exhibition will be on display until August 2nd.

ODDysseys

Exciting New Work from Stan Manoukian,
Seymour, Maryanna Hoggatt & Andrew Bell!

Stranger Factory is proud to present ODDysseys, for the month of June, with new work from Stan Manoukian, Seymour, Maryanna Hoggatt, and Andrew Bell.

1

Stan Manoukian is an internationally recognized member of the Circus Posterus Collective, from Paris, France, known for his comic illustration, film and commercial story development, toy design and monster creation. With approximately 15 original sculptures, one large (40″ x 30″) original drawing, and several smaller drawings, Manoukian will be expanding his realm of strange and unknown creatures for the ODDysseys exhibition.

2

Australian based Peter Kelk produces artwork under the pseudonym Seymour and is known for his vibrantly eerie sculptures and intricate ink and giclee prints. For ODDysseys, Seymour’s creations will embody a sense of exploration and adventure and we will see a sculpt edition of ten, each one in an original colorway, as well as at least two larger, original 3-D figures.

3

Maryanna Hoggatt is a freelance artist in the Pacific Northwest and her impressive client roster has included Nike, Amazon, and Microsoft, though she finds herself most at home when working on her own personal creations. Through illustration and sculpting, Hoggatt has created Animal Battle, a world in which animals express the human emotions involved in overcoming fears and doubts in order to bring to life their hopes and dreams. In keeping with her ongoing narrative, Hoggatt will be providing four original sculpts, wood/resin wall reliefs, as well as prints and smaller resin figures for the ODDysseys exhibition.

4

For NY artist, Andrew Bell, ODDysseys is an opportunity to expand upon the theme of transmuted plant life, or “Trans-Plants.” We can expect to see several ink drawings, original paintings, as well small and medium resin sculpts complete with Bell’s signature style that blends a sense of humor with serious undertones.

The opening reception is Friday, June 5th from 6 – 9 pm at Stranger Factory. Some of the artists will be in attendance. The ODDysseys exhibition will run through June 28th.

UNWOUND

Featuring All New Works from Joe Scarano, Scribe, and Karl Deuble

We are excited to announce Unwound, a group show featuring new work from Joe Scarano, Scribe, and Karl Deuble this May at Stranger Factory!

Joe Scarano is NY-based artist known for his goofy, tragic characters that honor the good old days of animation, complete with the friendly, but dingy despair of the 1930s. For our upcoming exhibition, Scarano is bringing plenty of characters to life through 3-D sculpts and a number of paintings, drawings, and mixed media pieces, featuring an edition of Ol’ Stitch Wilson figures, one-off variants of his famous goblin, as well as many new creatures, which we’re excited to see!

D. Ross Scribe is known for his murals throughout North America, most notably in Kansas City, MO, but his work can also be seen across the US, in Canada, and as far south as Mexico. For Unwound, Scribe has found himself exploring a narrative of confronting fears, letting down one’s guard, and what it means to really unwind and enjoy the journey through life. With an unconventional twist on the theme of pursuing one’s dreams in the unknown territory known as the wild, wild west, Scribe is producing a variety of mixed media pieces, acrylic paintings, and custom figures. He will also be in attendance throughout the weekend working on Stranger Factory’s first mural at it’s new location on historic Route 66!

When not at Stranger Factory, Karl Deuble can be found rocking out with his band, working his screen-printing magic, or making art. Through his own signature combination of screen printing, acrylic, and spray painting techniques, as well as good ol’ ink and graphite, Deuble creates what he describes as dim-witted characters that explore the inner workings of random thoughts and the everyday mundane that we humans encounter. For Unwound, Karl’s inspiration comes from the feeling of being unraveled and longing for the past. He wanted to experiment with texture and color as a way to connect each character as a whole, while still allowing each piece to stand alone.
