A Sneak Peek into Stranger Factory’s “Subterrane” Group Sculpture Exhibit

  • by

It is almost time for the “Subteranne” group sculpture exhibit at Stranger Factory! Actually we are about one week away from a deluge of amazing sculpts by six extraordinary artists.

I think we should give you a taste or two of the jaw dropping works that will be for all our wonderment in Albuquerque. Above is a playful image of a couple creatures by Shing Yin Khor (Sawdust Bear) and Valency Genis getting to know each other before their final homes are mounted.

It looks as if one of Sawdust Bear’s fattybugs has migrated to New Mexico!

Dressed to impress and in ruffles! Valency’s creation is ready to party next week!

Keep an eye out for more sneak previews from the show!

Subterrane opens Nov. 9th with an opening reception from 6-9pm. A number of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance!

These custom gems are limited to a small number of only 40 in celebration of his birthday, and they will cost $120 each. You can find these at Spanky Stokes’ booth #301. Misaki the artist behind Furrybones is heading to Designer Con! Designer Con has more awesome than Barney Stinson could imagine. First up, Furrybones will have the “Scorchie” posters seen above. These are limited to 25 in purple and 25 in sepia.

The Squeed Rockets are a nice DCon exclusive. There are only 5 versions in various colors., so these will not last long.

Who knows what other Furrybones characters she might bring along with her, but we do know, the Underbedz (image below) are most definitely making an appearance at the con. Look at them conspiring around a fire pondering mischief!

SKULLS show at Wonderland Gallery

  • by

Kat Von D is opening a show that looks like it raided my supply room at work. The collective group show is titled and themed SKULLS at Wonderland Gallery. The show features 100 anatomically-correct skulls and 100 different approaches an artists can take with them. A few of the names bringing their skull renditions are Audrey Kawasaki, Mister Cartoon, Ryan Adams, Bam Margera, and Margaret Cho. If you are wondering about some of those names then you are correct because the show doesn’t just feature fine artists but actors, musicians, skateboarders, fashion icons, and more. I am curious to see what Nick Swardson pulls for his piece. This show looks really good in my opinion, but I have my own running list in my head of artists that need a skull of their own to paint up in the future.

The show opens Friday, Nov. 2nd.

Wow Gary Ham is all over the map it seems. With his recent killer show “Dead Wood” still going on at Stranger Factory, and now it seems, you can’t stop the DesignerCon train from rollin either! Gary  is on board here too and will have lots of goods for us all. Gary is bringing both versions of his Monster Toytems in the Technicolor ($75) and Kidrobot exclusive colorway ($85).

He is also bringing the much loved Wooper Looper in 3 new versions of the clear purple with sprays consisting of Silver with black sprays, metallic purple spray, and deep violet matte sprays. There will only be 8 of each available for $65.

Also, at the Suckcarnival people will be able to win the Talking Sucklord double sided plush that Gary designed, and as luck would have it, his booth (225) is located directly across from the carnival, so winners can bring their plushes over to be signed.

Gary, has a few more pieces that we can’t show yet, but keep an eye out for more goodness!

This all goes down Nov. 3

Nick Gazin’s NerdWatch 2012!

  • by

A CP blog reader prompted me to this lovely article on NYCC 2012, and I was cracking up reading it. Nick Gazin has done a monumental job at capturing the essence of the con with NERDWATCH 2012. He also is a member of our world with nice mentions of Sucklord, Mishka, DTAs and more. His humor and narrative is spot on, so check out his awesome post on Vice.com here.

You know the King Hippo above makes you want to read his article!
