Secret Six Art by Brad Walker and Jimmy Palmiotti

  • by

Today, we’re bringing you a preview of some amazing art from the comic book Secret Six, which was a surprise hit when relaunched by DC in 2008. This art by Brad Walker(pencils) and show curator Jimmy Palmiotti(inks) features Cheshire getting the stab on the Mad Hatter as the members of the Secret Six look on(sorry, spoilers).

See it in person at the The Art of Narrative reception on Friday, January 4th, 6-9pm at Stranger Factory, or join our mailing list for the online preview. Jimmy Palmiotti will also be present at the reception and will be teaching a writing workshop the following Sunday as well!

Amanda Conner and Wonder Woman

  • by

Amanda Conner’s Wonder Woman is one of my absolute favourite Wonder Womans – she is strong, athletic, graceful, angry and passionate and pretty much exactly what Wonder Woman is. In The Art of Narrative, opening Friday, Jan 4th at Stranger Factory, we’ll be treated to four of her original Wonder Woman pages featuring fierce Amazons and glorious battles, and of course, Diana herself.

Amanda Conner will also be in attendance at the show’s reception, and if you’ve ever seen one of her convention lines(if you haven’t – they’re really, really long), you’ll know that this is a rare chance to meet her in a really chill and friendly setting! Hope to see you there!

Gilbert Hernandez in The Art of Narrative!

  • by

Love and Rockets was one of my first baby steps into the brave new world of indie comics, so I was excited to find out that Gilbert Hernandez will be part of The Art of Narrative show at Stranger Factory, which is curated by the amazing writer and inker Jimmy Palmiotti.

gilberthernandezHernandez, with his brother Jaime, started self publishing Love and Rockets in 1981, which was soon picked up by Fantagraphics(also a new publisher at the time!) and quickly gained an audience enamored with the nuanced portrayals of their characters – especially their women, who were complex and fascinating people, still a relative rarity in comics at the time.

The Los Bros Hernandez have been consistently producing some of the smartest, most gorgeous, comics work in the past few decades, and we are happy to have his work within the walls of Stranger Factory!

The Art of Narrative opens on Friday, January 4th, with a reception from 6 PM – 9 PM. The curator, Jimmy Palmiotti, and Amanda Conner will be in attendance.

Josh Keyes’ “Circus and the Sea”

  • by

This past weekend at Roq La Rue, Josh Keyes opened his most recent show “Circus and the Sea“. It appears the show was a huge success as always since all the pieces say sold on them. Loving the circus imagery and sea life. Obviously, you can’t ever go wrong with those.

Cheers to Josh on a great show.

Recap: Circus Posterus @ DesignerCon 2012!

The Circus Posterus caravan is back from DesignerCon and this year was easily the most insane yet! With the launch of the Tomenosuke + CP line of sofubi, new editions, a ton of customs and signing sessions with each of the artists, the booth was nothing short of a hoedown the entire day. Thanks to everyone who braved the crowds and stopped by the booth to say hello; we’ll see you all next year!

Hit the jump for a full photo gallery of the day’s shenanigans!

A Double Dose of Ryniak Today!

  • by

You ready for a double dose of Chris Ryniak today? Chris has two things going on to take note of with one being online and one going down at Dragatomi.
Today at NOON EST, Steve Brown Gallery will be releasing limited quantities of Chris Ryniak’s Artist Proofs for his 3″ Kidrobot Dunny. The Dunny Artist Proofs each come with an original watercolor mini-painting of the figure, as well as the box and accessories. Also available will be Artist Proofs of Chris’ White Misfortune Cat by Playge. These cats went like a flash at NYCC, so this will be your last time to get them. The Dunny and Watercolor combo will be $80 and the Misfortune Cats $65.
Each item is limited to only 1 per household, and you can battle the masses to get them right here.

Later today, the dynamic duo at Dragatomi will be throwing a Dunny Apocalypse release party that includes Chris Ryniak, Jesse Hernandez, and Hydro 74 all with exclusive prints. The way it works is, if you order a case of the Dunnys online, you get to pick between an exclusive print by Ryniak or Hernandez. It gets better if you go to the signing with all three lads because at the signing with every case purchase you get a print from all three artists, Ryniak, Hydro 74, and Hernandez. You also get the added benefit of meeting them all, getting things signed, and hearing Chris tell jokes. Today is a big day!
