Sneak Peeks from KO & CMR for Spectrum 5.18

We have some fresh tasters from Kathie Olivas and Chris Ryniak for everyone heading out to Spectrum next weekend in Kansas City (damn, this came up fast!). First up is a Calliope Jackalope hand paint from Kathie: the first-ever to be revealed! This little lady is one of the resin prototypes (it will also be sofubi), which we’ll see more widely released later this year. I’ve always been a sucker for those floppy ears and big eyes … and now they’re throwing broken antlers into the mix … can’t. handle. iiiiiit. (Kind of curious about the painting in behind, as well; here’s hoping KO’s been slingin’ some fresh paint!)

And please accept our apologies in advance if you’re swarmed by fruit flies while visiting the booth; Ryniak is bringing along some Rotten Banana Mini Crumbeaters, whose siren song of sweet stink is sure to create a buzz.

Sounds like a blast, really. Spectrum Fantastic Art Live kicks of May 18-20 at the Kansas City Convention Centre in  lovely Kansas City, MO. Party’s in Bartle Hall; the CP booth is #919, right near the main stage. Brandt Peters, Archer Dougherty and Travis Louie will also be attending.

Chris Ryniak’s Custom Critters for Spectrum 5.18

Kicking off the Spectrum hype is none other than lord of the critter himself, Mr. Chris Ryniak, who’s bringing a small army of minions with him to crawl about the CP booth (#919).

These are not only small in size, but also small in quantity:  we’re talking six Mini Bubbleguts, six Mini Crumbeaters and six regular-sized Crumbeaters — two handfuls, essentially. And apparently they all look really good as a set *wink* *nudge* *honk*.

And yes, that is a decapitated Crumbeater that you see below … can you guess which one he is in the top photo? ;)

Spectrum Fantastic Art Live opens May 18th through the 20th at the Kansas City Convention Center (Bartle Hall). Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Travis Louie and Archer Dougherty will also be there for the party.

Circus Posterus Gears Up For Spectrum!!!

Spectrum Fantastic Art is celebrating its first-ever convention later this month in Kansas City and the Circus is hitting the road to scope out the action!

Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Chris Ryniak, Archer Dougherty and Travis Louie will be hanging out at the CP booth (#919), right near the main stage area (don’t get any ideas, guys). Like most Cons, they’ll probably have a little bit of everything on hand … and like most Cons, it’ll disappear in a flash so shuffle to their booth quick-like!

Sneak peeks and WIP shots to come. Spectrum Fantastic Art Live kicks off May 18th through the 20th in the Bartle Hall in the Kansas City Convention Center. Directions, membership info, exhibitor list and all that jazz can be found here.

Mud Puddle Snybora from CMR x Rotofugi x Squibbles Ink Releasing Friday!

Watch your step when heading to Rotofugi this Friday because a new wave of Chris Ryniak’s Snybora will be hitting the streets for some splish splashin’! The Mud Puddle Snybora is a warm caramelized vinyl that features a burnt sienna rub and deep brown accents. His glossy black eyes glisten like the puddles he’s belly-gliding in! Hand painted by Kirby Kerr of Rotofugi and Joe Somers of Squibbles Ink, no two of the 3.5″ critters are exactly alike!

Snag one in store or online Friday, April 27th at 11am Central for about $35.

Experience the Magic of Monsters & Misfits II … in 3D!!

  • by

It’s time to bust out your cereal box 3D glasses, kids, as this next video is in 3D! Shot by BP Utfil (remember him from last year?), this clip takes us through the Kusakabe Folk Museum and Monsters & Misfits exhibition in an impressive 3D format. It’s about as close as we’re going to get to attending this juggernaut … and it’s freaking awesome!

Monsters & Misfits II is on display until April 26th in lovely Takayama, Japan.

Circus Posterus x Tomenosuke: The Sofubi Figures Revealed

Cue the victory fanfare for our weary artist travelers have returned home from the magical land that is Japan! There was sight seeing, and spa soaking, fan signings and bad karaoke (still awaiting evidence), and of course, the opening of Monsters & Misfits II.

Apart from all this, the quartet also managed to squeeze in a couple of projects: namely the planning of Monsters & Misfits III, slated for Summer/Fall 2013, and also the new Circus Posterus x Tomenosuke sofubi vinyl project. Yes, ladies and gents, we’re going to smelling some fresh CP vinyl very soon — one of the first pulls of BP’s Stingy Jack is pictured above, alongside KO’s Calliope Jackalope prototype, which has just been OK’d and should be hitting production soon. Chris Ryniak also put the finishing touches on his Stinky Ginger prototype, which we first saw a few weeks back. Hand-painted resin versions will be released as well this year. In other words: we have plenty to look forward to! Release details are still emerging, so keep checking back!

Monsters & Misfits II: A Thank You from Shinji

  • by

The four artists of Circus Posterus went from Gero-onsen to Tokyo in the morning of 16th. Yesterday, on 17th, they went to the Tokyo DisneySea with Shigeta of goccodo and Satoshi of ARTDENKA. Today, they are enjoying themselves at the Ghibli Museum. And, tomorrow, they will leave for home.
We would like to give big thanks to fans who came all the way to Hida Takayama and all those collectors around the world who purchased the works.

The Monsters & Misfits II has received more favorable responses than we had expected. With most works getting sold out after about one week, it has been a great success. The show will be held until 26th. It will be great if you can come before it closes.

We are planning to hold Part 3 next year. The time of the event will be changed to summer or fall, and we intend to make further improvement on the show. We will make that the show will be even greater next year.

Monsters & Misfits II: The Critter Congregation

  • by

So this is what happens after hours at the Kusakabe Folk Museum: critters of all walks of weird gather by the irori and mutter in tongues unknown to the human ear …

And at the end of the month, they disband: continuing on their own separate journeys, they’re likely to never cross paths with their pals again …
