Nonesuch Garden and Winter Salon III

  • by

Megan Baehr aka Nonesuch Garden is still rolling along full speed after her Halloween Skelve sold out a few weeks ago. Now with her sights set on Winter Salon III, she has a herd of plush ideas in store for us.
Cent progressMegan is hard at work creating a multitude of her favorite mythical creature, the centaur, for the show. As you can see, the color palette is ready, which leaves the arduous task of constructing all these one of a kind liminal beings.

If you aren’t familiar with a centaur, they are creatures based in Greek and Roman mythology with the head, arms, and torso of a human and the body and legs of a horse. Also, if you look to the sky on a clear night, constellation Centaurus is based on the same…well, you know.

Megan has chosen a fine specimen to recreate in her dolls. We will see more of the herd soon!

You won’t have to travel to Thessaly to get one of these amazing dolls…probably just Albuquerque or the comfort of your computer. The Circus Posterus Winter Salon opens December 6!

Dr. Paul Koudounaris Signing and Talk for “Heavenly Bodies”

  • by

Dr. Paul Koudounaris, the art historian recently dubbed by the UK press as “Indiana Bones” due to the discovery of caches of incredible jeweled skeletons for his new book “Heavenly Bodies”, will give an illustrated lecture on these masterpieces of macabre art in Albuquerque at Stranger Factory on November 22 at 6pm.

The event will also be the only area book signing for the title. The event is free.

The book “Heavenly Bodies” has already provoked a tremendous international response, due its often shocking images of fully articulated skeletons covered head to toe in dazzling jewels. The lecture, accompanied by a full slide show, will explain the puzzling and hidden back story of these marvelous skeletons: once believed to be early Christian martyrs, celebrated and decorated in the most exquisite of fashion, and then, as faith in them waned, turned out by the Catholic Church that once promoted them, often in humiliating ways.

For more information about Dr. Koudounaris and his book, check out the following – Your Corpse Will Never Look This Good (Vice Magazine) and the Smithsonian’s blog.

You can also RSVP at the Facebook event, although an RSVP is not required to attend!

Jen Musatto and “Them Dollz” beginning stages

  • by

Just like any project, proper planning comes into play. With Jen Musatto “Them Dollz”, it takes figuring out the right patterns and arrangement to create the perfect doll.

JMWIP1Jen takes her time to pick out the proper fabric and pattern when putting together her perfect creations. Her dolls are a fluid combination of movement and patterns in a rag style, which composes a story all their own! We get to see Jen laying out some styles here before she gets sewing and stuffing. The finished products will be available soon, and we will most definitely bring you the scoop.

JMWIP2
Jen’s Project Room exhibit will run December 6th – 29th, with an opening reception on Friday, December 6th from 6 – 9 PM.

Destination Designer Con: Shing Yin Khor

  • by

This year, joining us for the first time at the Circus Posterus booth during Designer Con is one of this year’s new additions to the artist roster, Shing Yin Khor. We have showed you some of the fabulous sculpts and pins that Shing will have at the con, but she will have plenty more (along with her bouncy attitude and bear death grip hugs).

We have compiled a nice slide show of the rest of Shing’s DCON bounty, including original paintings and more sculpts, and a list of her entire assortment.
