Destination DesignerCon: Gary Ham

  • by

Wow Gary Ham is all over the map it seems. With his recent killer show “Dead Wood” still going on at Stranger Factory, and now it seems, you can’t stop the DesignerCon train from rollin either! Gary  is on board here too and will have lots of goods for us all. Gary is bringing both versions of his Monster Toytems in the Technicolor ($75) and Kidrobot exclusive colorway ($85).

He is also bringing the much loved Wooper Looper in 3 new versions of the clear purple with sprays consisting of Silver with black sprays, metallic purple spray, and deep violet matte sprays. There will only be 8 of each available for $65.

Also, at the Suckcarnival people will be able to win the Talking Sucklord double sided plush that Gary designed, and as luck would have it, his booth (225) is located directly across from the carnival, so winners can bring their plushes over to be signed.

Gary, has a few more pieces that we can’t show yet, but keep an eye out for more goodness!

This all goes down Nov. 3

Mike Egan’s Brown and Cream Bones

  • by

I think after the Halloween holiday is over, I will still say stuff is perfect for Halloween all year around.

Mike Egan has a new colorway (brown and cream) of his Bones vinyl. I was able to obtain the first two colorways at this past year’s sdcc, and this piece is really pops. Bones stands at approximately 8 inches tall and made of Japanese cream colored soft vinyl (sofubi) with an aged brown rub. This is manufactured by the great Luke Rook/Grody Shogun. These are limited to only 40 and $45, and only available here.

Look at this fun Animation, “Le Taxidermiste”

Here is a fun animation for a Thursday morning from Dorianne Fibleuil

Le Taxidermiste

This is the story of an old woman who wants to pay her last respects to her husband.
She welcomes a team of Funeral directors at her home, a strange apartment full of dead animals. It’s time to get the body and perform the ceremony. It’s time to say goodbye to what is left behind.

PEE WEE’s Bike! PEE WEE’s Bike!

  • by

Artist Tim Anderson has created a faux ad for something many of us have dreamed about for a very very long time, PEE WEE’s bike! I can see this perfectly in an early 80’s comic book and me offering to mow 350 lawns to pay for it. Why isn’t this available at Target?

The Creepy and Odd Halloween Costumes of Yesteryear

When I think of old Halloween costumes, what comes to mind are those of cartoons, film, and super heroes that came in a box. They were disgusting feeling plastic that you slipped over normal clothes, and they had a toxic aroma to them as you were sweating under that loose fitting mask. Yeah the storm trooper one I rocked when I was five years old was awesome! But it seems like our forefathers had a vastly different idea of Halloween costumes.

Halloween many decades back prompted some very inventive, creepy, odd, and ridiculous costumes. They typically didn’t have the resources to run up the street and buy something pre-made, but they went out of their way to build and create very interesting pieces to wear or scare around town. I seriously have no idea what is going on with people wearing a telephone on their head or face, but it works. If this was popular today there would be a “slutty telephone head” costume at every mall in the country. Regardless, of the oddness of some of these costumes, It is easy to appreciate how many of these people go all out just as many do today. So peak into this blog post of Halloween costumes from decades ago, and be inspired to make something similar.

Beware, Pasadena! The Zombambies are Coming!!

Not sure about you, but that’s a trio of zombie deer carved out of peach Jolly Ranchers if I ever saws ’em!

New from Circus Posterus is the Sour Peach Zombambie, the first production run of the sculpt since its debut as small-run handpaints at Monsters & Misfits II and Le Carnaval des Spectres earlier this year.

The undead crystalline deer is an edition of 66 and will retail for $100 per carcass. Want one? The herd looks to be headed straight for Pasadena … DesignerCon, I bet. Catch one at the CP booth (#500); there’s only a handful so be quick to shoot. But don’t fret if you miss: Dr. Peters will be reanimating plenty more in his lab soon after so stay tuned …

DesignerCon kicks off Nov. 3 for one day only at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, CA. It’s time to party, toy town!

Nick Gazin’s NerdWatch 2012!

  • by

A CP blog reader prompted me to this lovely article on NYCC 2012, and I was cracking up reading it. Nick Gazin has done a monumental job at capturing the essence of the con with NERDWATCH 2012. He also is a member of our world with nice mentions of Sucklord, Mishka, DTAs and more. His humor and narrative is spot on, so check out his awesome post on Vice.com here.

You know the King Hippo above makes you want to read his article!
