Chris Ryniak is Bringin’ the Stink to this Year’s DesignerCon!

At long last we have our first look at Chris Ryniak’s Stingy Ginger in sofubi form and she (yes, she!) is making her big debut at DesignerCon in Pasadena this Saturday! Dubbed “Raw Stinky”, this uber-limited unpainted edition is a run of just 65 pieces and stands 6 inches. A handful will be available at the Circus Posterus booth (#500) for $65 and the remainder of the edition will sell through Tomenosuke-syoten and Stranger Factory later on. Between Ms. Stinky and her pals Calliope and Stingy, the CP booth will be a busy one, so be ready when the doors open at 9am. Come bearing sweets and you’ll win them over for sure — critters and artists alike!

DesignerCon opens Nov. 3rd for one day only at the Pasadena Convention Centre in Pasadena, CA. Event is on from 9am to 6pm. See ya there!

FERG’s Playge Doctor S003 [TREATS] Dropping Halloween Day, 10.31

Hell YES. It’s been far too long since FERG’s Playge Doctor has skulked the streets, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been busy. Back and looking better than ever with a zip-up wizard cloak with pointed hood a la his Doc Skelve, s003 [TREATS] has no qualms with coming at you in broad daylight. Releasing Halloween day (10.31) at noon Central, he’s ready for bloodshed after nearly two and a half years in captivity.

Brandishing a clear katana and jeweled sword cane for optimal slice-n-dice, Doc will happily amputate his more flighty and combative patients. Be wary of the cloth bag of candies; not everything is what it seems …

Playge Doctor s003 [TREATS] is a heart-racing edition of only 200 pieces, so bring your F5 A-game this Wednesday. He’ll retail for $95 via the Squadt store, worldwide shipping included.

Random Goodness!

I am starting out with a bang this week! From time to time I watch this video to be inspired. Watch Mr. Rogers appear before the United States Senate Subcommittee on Communications. His goal was to support funding for PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, in response to significant proposed cuts by President Nixon. He went in as calm as could be, spoke from the heart, and earned what was deserved.

These may look like the teacups that made you vomit at Disney, but alas no, they are really awesome balconies in Tokyo. I don’t think these would fit in most places.

Lastly this week, I am posting a really cool image of Black Mastiff Bat embryos. These will make Charity squee for a few hours. The one in the middle looks like he just sneezed.

Collectible “Death Coins” from KO & BP for DesignerCon 2012

  • by

In keeping with DesignerCon tradition, two collectible coins will be up for grabs to commemorate the event and this year features original art from Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas! Inspired by the coins placed on the eyes of the deceased to cross the Acheron in Greek mythology, the ‘Death Coins’ feature Stingy Jack and Calliope Jackalope on one side, and candies on the other (you may recall seeing candies placed on eyes in some of KO’s paintings).

The 1.5″ metal coins retail for $20 per set and there are 100 sets in total. Grab some for good luck at booth #100! DesignerCon kicks off Nov. 3rd for one day only at the Pasadena Convention Center in lovely Pasadena, CA.

Chris Ryniak’s “Meltdown” Dunny

Well well well, it is about time. Looks like Chris Ryniak has his first mass produced piece coming soon in the form of a Dunny named “Meltdown” by Kidrobot. Took long enough! This Apocalypse goodness releases all over the place on Nov. 8, and Chris will be selling his APs here when the time is right. Keep checking back  because we will have some new insight into this globby goodness soon.

Add a Skull Wall to your Wall

What do we have here lingering around the Stranger Factory? It looks like a Skull Wall by Chet Zar. This original framed  8.5″ x 10.5″ painting is oil on gesso board by Chet. This perfectly represents his style and fits into any skull collection. Why not have a Skull Wall on your wall? It is currently available here. If you hurry up and grab it, I am sure it can be there for your Halloween party!

Recap: Kathie Olivas “Haunted” Solo Exhibition @ AFA NYC, 10.20

Kathie Olivas’s newest solo exhibition, Haunted, opened to a packed house at AFA gallery in lower Manhattan’s beautiful and bustling Soho neighborhood last Saturday. With 20 new paintings and eight custom sculpts, Haunted is Kathie’s largest and most ambitious collection of work to date and it did not disappoint. The evening kicked off with an artist walkthrough with the AFA staff and a brief Q&A period for the first hour.  Shortly after, the doors were unlocked and the wine uncorked. signalling the start of the celebration! A photo gallery of the evening’s festivities is posted just after the jump.

Haunted is on through December at AFA NYC. The full exhibition of works can be viewed here. Contact the gallery 212.226.7374 for pricing & availability.

In and among the myriad of exciting new Tomenosuke + CP sofubi releases emerging at this year’s DesignerCon is Kathie Olivas’s long-awaited Calliope Jackalope #1. First seen as a prototype at Monsters & Misfits II last April, this beautiful little lady will debut in a robin’s egg blue colorway and is limited to just 120 pieces at $95ish a pop. Thanks to this lovely Instacrack teaser:

DrilOne looks to be reworking one of Brand Peters‘ Peace Makers. Now what convention is close by that this may show up at? I think we will see the full on finished custom in all it’s glory at Designer Con.
