Winter Salon IV & John Paul Gutierrez

December brings a new solo exhibit, as well as our yearly winter group show!

December 2014 brings us two new exhibits….a solo exhibit of new work by John Paul Gutierrez, and our yearly Winter Salon group exhibit!

The Winter Salon is our yearly group exhibit featuring members of the Circus Posterus collective, as well as like-minded friends and family. This group exhibit is an end-of-year holiday party for Circus Posterus and Stranger Factory, and a chance for our family of artists and contributors to all come together for a great exhibit and celebrate another year of creating incredible artwork and limited edition releases under the Circus Posterus banner. This year’s participating artists include Brandt Peters, Kathie Olivas, Chris Ryniak, Amanda Louise Spayd, Lana Crooks, Cassia Harries and more.

John Paul Guiterrez’s new solo exhibition, “Creatures of Growth”, brings this local Albuquerque talent to Stranger Factory for his first solo exhibition. His drawings and acrylic paintings create a surreal world where flora and fauna are sometimes indistinguishable from one another; sometimes as one, co-existing as distortions in a phantom reality. Guiterrez transports you into his dream-like landscape that is familiar enough to draw you in but strange enough that you cannot look away until you’ve decoded every dense layer of symbolism and iconography. Best described as “naturalist meets surrealist”, Stranger Factory is excited to bring you new works from this incredible talent.

Both exhibits run December 4th – 28th, with an opening reception on Thursday, December 4th from 6 – 9 PM to coincide with the local Albuquerque Shop and Stroll events! Some artists will be in attendance.

There really isn’t a middle ground with snowmen. You either have a Dapper chap telling stories or a bad B-movie style killer version, but Tim Lee looks to bridge that gap for Winter Salon III.

Snowman_tleeLooks like this frosty guy has had his share of rough days with  sled dogs using him as a tree, but he is still all smiles. Tim is experimenting with sculpting more and more, and the results are spectacular. This pseudo creepy top hat wearing piece is a prime example. Also, it looks like Tim is also doing more woodcuts for Christmas trees of sorts in the top image. More on those soon.

The Winter Salon runs December 6th – 29th, with an opening reception on Friday, December 6th from 6 – 9 PM.

All the artists involved in Winter Salon III are hard at work completing their pieces for the show. After some minor sleuthing, we found some progress images of Goblinfruit Studio aka our very own  Carisa Swenson.

Carisa appears to be working on some of her amazing “Jackibous” and “Marottes”. Of course, these are the early stages and she is sculpting away, but we know what she is capable of. Winter Salon might turn into Winter Battle Royale with all the great work coming!

Circus Posterus and Stranger Factory are closing out the 2012 season with a bang with Circus Annual and A One-Way Ticket to Flipsville: two killer exhibitions from the CP gang along with Atlanta’s favorite scribbler, Derek Yaniger.

In keeping the tradition of last year’s Winter Salon, Circus Annual will showcase new works from CP artists and friends at affordable prices just in time for the holidays. This year’s exhibition will feature art from Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Chris Ryniak, Amanda Louise Spayd, Valency Genis, RAGNAR, Phil Noto, Glenn Barr, DrilOne, Leecifer, Yohei Kaneko, and Shigeta Tanaka. Resin editions, custom toys, small originals, prints, apparel and the like will be available, so after all the art lovers are scratched from your list, you’ll still have enough for a little self indulgence. ;)

Joining in the Circus Annual soiree is A One-Way Ticket to Flipsville, a solo exhibit from Derek Yaniger in the gallery’s small projects space. Inspired by cocktail napkin art of the 50s, Yaniger’s retro illustrations are a lively collision of classic cars, cocktail parties and island oases. With more than a dozen new paintings and a bunch of full-colour sketchbook originals planned for the exhibit, Yaniger’s been busy with the paint slinging and we have much to look forward to! So grab your grass skirts and tiki torches, we’re headed to a land full of sun and sand this December!

Circus Annual and A One-Way Ticket to Flipsville open Dec. 7 with a reception from 6 to 9pm. Some of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance!

Stranger Factory’s Winter Salon exhibition is a gift that just keeps on givin’. Week Two saw many incredible goodies added to the showcase and CP’s film crew was poised and ready for the onslaught o’ art!

For those who missed the preview last week (be it from the mall or eggnog), fret not! Many pieces are still up for grabs and the show is on until the new year. Click through for the full spread.

Enjoy and Happy Holidays from all of us here at the Circus!

Yeeeep, we’ve got more goodness from Amanda Louise Spayd for Stranger Factory’s Winter Salon group exhibition. Behold the majestic (and rather girthy!) ‘White Stag.’

… No words necessary for this beaut.
