Valency Genis

A View of Valency

  • by

Valency_1One of Circus Posteruslatest members, Valency, has been hitting the brushes and Magic Sculpt hard for her show “Fauna” opening June 7 at Stranger Factory.

Our dear Valency has an affinity for faux taxidermy with a hybridized Frankenstein-esque flare that has us all in awe (like the work in progress piece above). Her work transcends into what might be seen in obscure natural history museums, curious antique shops, and other oddities of your dreams. This is only one piece still in the early creative stages for the show, but already we can see that it will be captivating!

Valency_2Valency Genis’ “FAUNA” opens June 7th at Stranger Factory with a reception from 6-9pm.

Genis1

Stranger Factory’s own vivacious vixen of art, Valency, is making Valentine’s Day a little easier for us with her Love Skulls, now available in the Circus Posterus store

These original hand sculpted and painted skulls feature a heart shaped nose and devious eye sockets. They are available in pin and necklace form to give a sweet Valentine’s Day gift to yourself or that special person. Or…you could do both since everyone loves skulls, especially LOVE SKULLS, and they are in fact guaranteed to be made with love.

Valency Genis + Kathie Olivas = The Skelve Heads Evolve

  • by

We all knew it was bound to happen, and are we ever glad it did! After seeing the teaser a few days ago, we couldn’t wait for more to salivate over. The meeting of two great artistic minds is taking shape with the dynamic duo of Kathie Olivas and Valency Genis, and these wall mounts are the combined super powers of these amazing ladies. Skelve masks, party hats, tentacles, floppy ears and more! We only have to wait a few more days to see all 8-9 of these unique beauties for Circus Annual, and like a little kid at Christmas, I am screaming “I want to see now!!!!”

Circus Annual opens Dec. 7th with a reception from 6 to 9pm.

Tentacular Goodness from Valency Genis for Circus Annual, 12.7

She may have just wrapped up SUBTERRANE this month at Stranger Factory, but resident painter/sculptor/wonder woman Valency Genis isn’t through yet! A few days ago she gave us this exciting sneak peek into her studio, where she’s busily fashioning a whole fleet of taxidermy “Skelve heads” for Circus Annual. Some are real, some are resin, some are tentacles — all are unique and equally fabulous! Valency anticipates having 9 or 10 for the show, so there will be plenty of Skelve lovin’ to go around.

Circus Annual opens Dec. 7th with a reception from 6 to 9pm. Valency will be in attendance, so be sure to say hello!

Recap: SUBTERRANE @ Stranger Factory, 11.9

  • by

Hot on the heels of the DesignerCon hustle, the CP crew packed up and hightailed it back to Albuquerque to prepare for SUBTERRANE at Stranger Factory — a group sculpture show featuring new works from emerging 3D artists Carisa Swenson, Yosiell Lorenzo, Shing Yin Khor, Valency Genis, Shea Brittain and Melita Curphy … the majority of whom also attended DCon! With almost all of the artists in attendance (we missed you, Melita!), the reception was a riot and a sugar-laden one at that, thanks to our friends at Rebel Donut.

SUBTERRANE is on display through Dec. 3rd and works can be viewed here. A full gallery of the evening’s tomfoolery awaits you after the break.

A Sneak Peek into Stranger Factory’s “Subterrane” Group Sculpture Exhibit

  • by

It is almost time for the “Subteranne” group sculpture exhibit at Stranger Factory! Actually we are about one week away from a deluge of amazing sculpts by six extraordinary artists.

I think we should give you a taste or two of the jaw dropping works that will be for all our wonderment in Albuquerque. Above is a playful image of a couple creatures by Shing Yin Khor (Sawdust Bear) and Valency Genis getting to know each other before their final homes are mounted.

It looks as if one of Sawdust Bear’s fattybugs has migrated to New Mexico!

Dressed to impress and in ruffles! Valency’s creation is ready to party next week!

Keep an eye out for more sneak previews from the show!

Subterrane opens Nov. 9th with an opening reception from 6-9pm. A number of the exhibiting artists will be in attendance!

Making Magic with Magic Sculpt: Sculpture Workshop @ Stranger Factory 11.11

In conjunction with Subterrane in November, Stranger Factory is proud to host Making Magic with Magic Sculpt, a sculpture workshop that will reveal all the ins and outs of working with epoxy clay. If you’re weary of firing up your oven or kiln, want an alternative to paper clay or are just plain curious about sculpting, then this is the workshop for you!

Instructed by the the gallery’s own Kathie Olivas and Valency Genis, the three-hour workshop will demonstrate how to make a basic sculpt with two-part epoxy clay, along with the interior aluminum armatures. Participants will be supplied with clay, armature, foil, gloves, base and sculpting tools. Additional clay will also be available for purchase.

The workshop will take place on the Sun., Nov. 11th from 2pm to 5pm. Price is $75. Space is limited!  To RSVP, contact the gallery at (505) 508-3049 or email strangerfactorysales@gmail.com.
