The Creepers Come Out to Play: Sketchbook Teasers from Brandt Peters for Posthumous Menagerie, 1.4

  • by

With Posthumous Menagerie a mere month away, we’re starting to see the delightfully creepy crawlers emerge from the Brandt Peters imaginarium. Curvy kitty ladies, cactus bone daddies … it’s all here, folks, and this is just the beginning! I’m curious to see these characters’s final forms: will they remain skulking about  BP’s sketchbook, or evolve into something more? A painting, a sculpt? Only time will tell!

Posthumous Menagerie opens Jan. 4th at Stranger Factory with a reception from 6pm to 9pm. For up-to-the-minute coverage, be sure to follow Brandt on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr … he’s seemingly omnipresent these days. The more the better, I say!

Stranger Factory Presents: “Posthumous Menagerie” A Brandt Peters Solo Exhibition, 1.4

Following the internet-crippling success of his TRIGGER exhibition with FERG last January, Brandt Peters returns with Posthumous Menagerie, a mini solo exhibition taking place in Stranger Factory’s Small Projects Room. In addition to a whole whack of new paintings, drawings and sculptures, the event will also mark the release of the third production colorway of Brandt’s Stingy Jack sofubi. A tribute to classic cartoons of the silver screen era, the monochrome, Old Timey  edition is limited to only 120 pieces. More details on that to come as we inch closer to the date!

Posthumous Menagerie opens Jan. 4th with a reception from 6pm to 9pm. Brandt will be floating about the gallery, so be sure to say hello!

Recap: Kathie Olivas “Haunted” Solo Exhibition @ AFA NYC, 10.20

Kathie Olivas’s newest solo exhibition, Haunted, opened to a packed house at AFA gallery in lower Manhattan’s beautiful and bustling Soho neighborhood last Saturday. With 20 new paintings and eight custom sculpts, Haunted is Kathie’s largest and most ambitious collection of work to date and it did not disappoint. The evening kicked off with an artist walkthrough with the AFA staff and a brief Q&A period for the first hour.  Shortly after, the doors were unlocked and the wine uncorked. signalling the start of the celebration! A photo gallery of the evening’s festivities is posted just after the jump.

Haunted is on through December at AFA NYC. The full exhibition of works can be viewed here. Contact the gallery 212.226.7374 for pricing & availability.

New Works in Progress by Kathie Olivas for ‘Haunted’ @ AFA NYC 10.20

  • by

Kathie Olivas will have a number of fairly large and ambitious sculpts as part of her solo exhibition, Haunted, at AFA NYC next month. With the opening just a few weeks away, these pieces will start to emerge from the shadows as they ready for their journey to the Big Apple. Some are nearly complete, others are still a work in progress. Regardless, hang on to your jaw because we haven’t seen this volume of work or level of complexity from KO alone in one place, ever. (Really.)

Haunted opens Oct. 20th at AFA NYC with a reception from 7pm to 9pm. Kathie will be in attendance, so stop in for some inspiration and a cocktail.

New Teasers from Kathie Olivas for ‘Haunted’ @ AFA NYC 10.20

The eye candy continues to trickle out from CP HQ, where Kathie is busy juggling preps for Paris this September with what’s shaping up to be a cracking solo exhibition the following month at AFA NYC. This round of ladies is for the latter: a striking (albeit slightly unsettling) original sculpt of Siamese twins, followed by a gorgeous Lizzie custom (these always kill me) and seriously freakish lady off to the left (watch your back). The bronze 4-legged is for Paris.

Haunted opens Oct. 20th at AFA NYC. Opening reception with KO from 7pm to 9pm; come say hi!

Doktor A’s ‘Ophelia Grimm’ for A Postcard from New Yorkshire, 10.12

  • by

Doktor A has just put the finishing touches on all of the dimensional pieces for his upcoming solo show at myplasticheart this October, A Postcard from New Yorkshire. First to be revealed is this stunning original, Ophelia Grimm:

Chronic nyctophobe, Ophelia is terrified of the dark. Sadly, her grand house was inherited from an eccentric uncle who built it without windows, so she was forced to squander her fortunes on candles…

Miss Ophelia stands 9.5″ tall, or 11.5″ with the vintage brass dome. She and the (seriously impressive) candles are crafted from vinyl, ABS, rubber, lead, glass, styrene, polymer clay, vintage draughtsman’s tools & clock key, and other repurposed treasures.

A Postcard from New Yorkshire opens at MPH during NYCC weekend, Oct. 12, and is on view until Nov. 11th.

A Sneak Peek from Kathie Olivas for AFA NYC 10.20

Aside from the 20 or so paintings that will grace the walls of New York’s AFA Gallery, Kathie also plans to have a parade of mischievous and enchanting little ladies hanging about the floor, as well.

Giant encrusted Elizabeth heads, custom Lizzies, and a brand new edition (below) will make an appearance at the show, among many other friends. October can’t come fast enough.

Doktor A’s ‘A Postcard from New Yorkshire’ Solo @ myplasticheart 10.12

Oooo, this oughta be good. It’s been a little over a year since Doktor A’s stellar UK solo exhibition, Mr. Whistlecraft’s Tarnished Daydreams, and he’s now tuning up for a retrobotic steampunk soiree at myplasticheart in NYC this October with A Postcard from New Yorkshire.

“I will have some more adventurous pieces on show,” Dok writes from his studio in the UK. “I have been pushing some boundaries and learning some new skills for this one. More involved and intricate constructions than I have undertaken in the past.”

The show will feature more original creations than custom toys, as well as a new series of ink drawings to complement the dimensional pieces. The Doktor also promises some surprises as he explores new avenues and territories that have been on his bucket list for some time.

A Postcard from New Yorkshire opens Oct. 12th with a reception from 7pm to 10pm. And yes, the Doktor will be in to visit!
