In the works for Kathie Olivas’ SCOUT

  • by Brad
  • March 8, 2013

Our enthusiasm for this show will be gently amplified through the month as we bring you glimpses of what Kathie Olivas has in store for all of us with her exhibition, “Scout“.

WIP

Kathie posted on instagram a work in progress painting with the tag “4 layers of under painting, only 10-15 more to go…”. This isn’t the finished product yet, but we can’t wait to see what this masked wanna-be tentacled super hero will look like when done!

Kathie Olivas‘ “Scout” opens April 5th at Stranger Factory along with Scott Radke’s  “Interface”, and Stephan Webb’s “Evolutionary End Game”. An opening reception will occur April 5th from 6-9pm.

The Workhouse Arts Center in Virginia celebrated the opening of the third annual Urban Decay group exhibition last weekend with a bustling gallery, musical performances and live painting sessions with some recognized artists from the urban arts scene.

The Circus’ Kathie Olivas, Scott Radke, Travis Lampe and DrilOne submitted pieces to the show and some are still available. Including this beauty:

Seriously, people! Let’s get on this!! Travis Lampe’s Mr. Reginald and Scott Radke’s Shells are also singing to my Paypal account. Just gorgeousness, I tell ye.

Visit Urban Decay’s Flickr Page to view what’s on exhibit and available. If you haven’t made you way to the Workhouse, make a mental note to do so soon! Show’s on display until June 24th.

Special thanks to Rob (aka Treblekicker) for the photos; there’s many more below!

Urban Decay is celebrating its third year at the Workhouse Arts Center in Virginia this June with a large group exhibition showcasing the talents of a ton of contemporary and lowbrow arteests.

Circus Posterus’ own Kathie Olivas, Travis Lampe, Scott Radke and DrilOne are among the roster of participating artists. Festivities kick off June 2nd with a reception from 7pm to 11pm that’ll include food and live music and art talks and live painting … sounds like quite the hoedown.

Peeks at the exhibited works is available via the Urban Decay Flickr account; pieces are just starting to trickle in now.

So who else is exhibiting?! Why, I’m delighted you asked:

Kevin Gosselin, RSIN, Gregg Deal, Jeremy Gann, Camden Noir, HKS181, Matt Anderson, Gabriel Pons, Carlos Aguilar, Graham Franciose, Tyler Coey, Betsom, Bryan A. Collins, Daryll Peirce, Jesse Smith, Drilone, James Walker, Asad ULTRA Walker, Jack Labadie, Sylvia Ortiz, Kenny Brown, Kevin Murphy, Jc Rivera, Kevin Rodrigue, Nick Zimbro, Drew Storm Graham and ElStabo.

Urban Decay III runs through June 24th at the Workhouse in Lorton, VA!

Calliopes

OH MYYY! As George Takei would say…

Brandt dropped a sneaky pic of two hand painted Calliopes that Kathie Olivas is working on for Scout!. Look at those doe eyes and little horns, and I am loving the striped legs too, of course! It looks like they are making a short term home in the Migration exhibit before they say goodbye to their friends.

Look for more detailed shots when “Scout” opens April 5th at Stranger Factory. An opening reception will occur April 5th from 6-9pm, and Kathie will be present.

But that’s not all, folks. We also have more information on the release of …The Red Death Vamp Greeter!
RVDG
This awesome new Skelve with a bright crimson mask and “greeter” style body will be a low edition of only 15 at $240 each. They’ll be available at the SCOUT opening, and we’ll keep you updated if there will be any left for online sale. Get those F5 finger exercises in, just in case.

Brent Maloney Kathie Olivas Sketch 1

The exhibit “Scout” by Kathie Olivas is only one week away at Stranger Factory, and we thought it would be nice to get everyone pumped by showing off some of the amazing sketches Kathie has done for fans over the years! Many of us carry our sketchbooks around in hope of catching our favorite artists with a couple moments to spare to do a quick doodle, and Kathie is more than gracious when she has time to accommodate all of us. Sit back and enjoy a few of Kathie’s delicate and expressive sketches!

Red Death Vamp Greeter for Kathie Olivas’ SCOUT

RVDG

Hide your neck and eat a ton of garlic(or don’t), because the Red Death Vamp Greeter will be creeping into the night at Kathie Olivas’ SCOUT.

This new Skelve edition comes cloaked, with a blood red face and pointy incisors. A true sanguine creature of the night (or day, really)! We will have more info soon on the edition size and all the blood dripping juicy details, so keep checking the blog!

Stephan Webb’s…T-Rex?

  • by Brad
  • March 8, 2013

Stephan Webb, who will be opening EVOLUTIONARY END GAME at Stranger Factory in April, just sent us a little sneak peak of something prehistoric! Webb, a local Albuquerque favourite, melds biology themes with intricately cast bronze pieces to create incredibly detailed pieces of art.

Here, this fossil perches on Stephan’s arm like a bird. Considering that birds evolved from the dinosaur suborder Theropoda dinosaurs, of which the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex is a member – well, that seems awfully appropriate.

We’ll be updating you with more little sneak peeks of Stephan Webb’s show, so check back frequently!
