Mark Powell’s Dioramas will Freak you Out

  • by

A friend of mine sent me an email this week about dioramas. The only time I think of dioramas is on reruns of Community or a commercial for Family Guy, but this opened a whole new world of terror. Melbourne based artists Mark Powell creates frightening images that look like they could be in a Tool video or in a ring of a hell. As he puts it, “I have been working primarily on creating miniature environments where imaginary beings evolve, devolve, consume, excrete, multiply and decay“. Some of the images look as if cenobites had an epic party, especially with the detail he gets with silicon. These may freak me out later, so I will post now.

Skull Paintings by Tom French

  • by

Skulls with hidden imagery are nothing new, but creating some that have more depth seems to be uncommon. Luckily for all of us, Tom French has a way of creating captivating illusions within his skull paintings. Are we seeing a skull or a couple’s interaction in their relationship? The hidden couples or the hidden skull create an astounding effect you can stare at for many moments. I even will say “beautiful imagery.”

Zombie Versions of Brands We All Know

  • by

We can’t escape it, and it isn’t the zombie apocalypse we think will happen. We actually can’t escape the zombie apocalypse of everything being zombie. Actually, it is still cool and not crusty yet.

Ben Fellowes has taken the company adverts and logos we all have seen everywhere and converted them into the world of zombies. Here we see Playboy and Starbucks get a new re-branding with a thirst for brains, and the NBA use something other than a ball for dribbling. His work is fun and very imaginative; take a look.

Want more brains? More images after the jump!

Destination Designer Con: DrilOne

DrilOne has got his minions polished, painted, and prepared for DCon this Saturday.  Drils appears to be bringing a brand new rusty creation with 10 differing colors for the fans coming to the convention. Not too much news as of yet, but be sure to check back  for more info.  Also, we know he has a custom Peacemaker and a Visighost all set for the Circus Posterus booth #500. I do think Alex has some trick and treats up his sleeves for us, so keep a watchful eye.

London’s new Museum Of Curiosity

  • by

The twisted and the macabre will have a new residence in London. Mike of Black Rat Projects has a new endeavor he is starting, The Museum of Curiosity. Mike is known for his gallery and love of art, but he is also a collector of the weird and not so common. I am told the theme of the museum will be an interpretation of the Wunderkammern of renaissance Europe which the wealthy put together consisting of odds and ends from around the globe. This sounds the homes of many collectors and artists I know actually.

Now a Museum of Curiosity is just what you would think. In it’s walls and halls you will find dead things stuffed, skeletons, bones, eyeballs, teeth, devices, and more obscure artifacts that look like they could be in Dr. Frankenstein’s study. Something for everyone I think with a fancy for the odd.

We cant forget Mike’s love of art, because he will also be displaying works by Swoon, Candice Tripp, Butch Anthony, Oskar Rink, Giles Walker, Delaney Martin, Jessica Harrison, Tessa Farmer and Nancy Fouts to name a few. This could also be called The Museum of Badass Stuff I think.

The Museum opens Nov. 8 and then to the public Nov. 9 at
Pertwee, Anderson & Gold Gallery,
15 Bateman St.
Soho, London, W1D 3AQ

Get your steam powered rifles ready or a slingshot because at this year’s Designer Con, Doktor A will be releasing the last few pieces of his fine art prints from Killer Targets. There were only 50 of these made, and Dok is gracious to bring the last 9 to the con. That is correct, only 9 will be there.
Each print is 11″ x 17″, signed and numbered for $30 each. These will make you go “pew pew pew” all the way home. Dok A will be at the awesome Circus Posterus booth #500.

What Does DrilOne Have Up His Sleeve?

  • by

Thanks to this lovely Instacrack teaser:

DrilOne looks to be reworking one of Brand Peters‘ Peace Makers. Now what convention is close by that this may show up at? I think we will see the full on finished custom in all it’s glory at Designer Con.

PEE WEE’s Bike! PEE WEE’s Bike!

  • by

Artist Tim Anderson has created a faux ad for something many of us have dreamed about for a very very long time, PEE WEE’s bike! I can see this perfectly in an early 80’s comic book and me offering to mow 350 lawns to pay for it. Why isn’t this available at Target?
