Last-Minute Eye Candy from KO & BP for Stranger Factory’s Holiday Hoedown

  • by

Circus Annual is already upon us and before the festivities get into full swing tonight, we figure we’d toss a few more gumdrops ’cause these pics are too sweet to pass up. Right off the top, we have gorgeousness from Brandt Peters, Kathie Olivas and DrilOne, with (from left): an Ooze Skull, custom Skelve, SD201 Red Star Drone and a custom Greeter Skelve that is guaranteed to spark an internet-wide riot.

And just in case those gorgeous Elizabeth handpaints from last week weren’t enough, Kathie will also have a 17″ Lizzie in the show. Yep. Anyone have a drool bucket? Hang it off my ears.

And this was the arrow through the heart for me: Brandt will have a small series of 6- and 8-inch wood pieces featuring a few of our favourite characters, new and old (wait till you see Slap-Happy!). But enough teasing: on to the preview! Many pieces still need to be added today and through the weekend, but there’s still a ton of goodness to ogle in the meantime. Allons-y!!

Stranger Factory Presents: “Posthumous Menagerie” A Brandt Peters Solo Exhibition, 1.4

Following the internet-crippling success of his TRIGGER exhibition with FERG last January, Brandt Peters returns with Posthumous Menagerie, a mini solo exhibition taking place in Stranger Factory’s Small Projects Room. In addition to a whole whack of new paintings, drawings and sculptures, the event will also mark the release of the third production colorway of Brandt’s Stingy Jack sofubi. A tribute to classic cartoons of the silver screen era, the monochrome, Old Timey  edition is limited to only 120 pieces. More details on that to come as we inch closer to the date!

Posthumous Menagerie opens Jan. 4th with a reception from 6pm to 9pm. Brandt will be floating about the gallery, so be sure to say hello!

Calling all comic book nerds, Stranger Factory is kicking off 2013 with a bif! whap! pow! and BANG with The Art of Narrative, a comic arts exhibition curated by industry giant Jimmy Palmiotti (Deadpool, Ghost Rider, Jonah Hex, Punisher, Painkiller Jane). Showcasing narrative-based art and illustration from an amazing group of critically-acclaimed comic book and fine artists, The Art of Narrative celebrates a cross-section of artists and illustrators in the industry who are not only masters of storytelling, but elevate comic art beyond its commercial graphics roots and into a higher form of artistry.

The exhibition will present original works by Gilbert Hernandez (Love and Rockets), Amanda Conner (Power Girl), Geoff Darrow (Shaolin Cowboy), Dave Taylor (Judge Dredd), Bill Ward (Torchy), Mike Mignola (Hellboy), Cliff Chiang (Wonder Woman), Brad Walker (Guardians of the Galaxy), John Buscema (Conan The Barbarian), Klaus Janson (Batman), Sanjulian (Devlin’s Luck), Raffa Garres (Wolverine), J.G. Jones (Wanted), Chris Sprouse (Tom Strong) and Eduardo Risso (100 Bullets), among others.
The Art of Narrative opens Friday, Jan. 4th with a reception from 6pm to 9pm.  Jimmy Palmiotti and his partner in crime, Amanda Conner, will be in attendance. And it doesn’t stop there: in conjunction with this exhibit, Stranger Factory will host a special 2-hour writing workshop with Jimmy Palmiotti on Sunday, Jan. 6th. The workshop will discuss creating your own characters and intellectual property and how to sell it beyond the printed page. With Palmiotti’s wide range of experience in writing and creating for comics, video games, television and films, attendees will have a chance to gain first-hand industry knowledge to help with their own careers. Palmiotti has worked with a number of the top publishers and intellectual property holders in the world, and during this workshop will offer artists valuable information and coaching on creating, protecting, and monetizing their work.

Tickets are $50 per person, and space is very limited. To reserve your tickets, please contact the gallery at strangerfactorysales@gmail.com  or (505) 508-3049 as soon as possible!

Valency Genis + Kathie Olivas = The Skelve Heads Evolve

  • by

We all knew it was bound to happen, and are we ever glad it did! After seeing the teaser a few days ago, we couldn’t wait for more to salivate over. The meeting of two great artistic minds is taking shape with the dynamic duo of Kathie Olivas and Valency Genis, and these wall mounts are the combined super powers of these amazing ladies. Skelve masks, party hats, tentacles, floppy ears and more! We only have to wait a few more days to see all 8-9 of these unique beauties for Circus Annual, and like a little kid at Christmas, I am screaming “I want to see now!!!!”

Circus Annual opens Dec. 7th with a reception from 6 to 9pm.

The Return of Brandt Peters’s Postcard Sketches

  • by

To the lucky dozen or so who secured a spot on the Paris Pack list on the Circus Posterus forum, boy are you in for a treat: Brandt Peters is throwing in a wayback playback with the return of his vintage postcard sketches, similar to his Komic Kards from a few years back. That’s right: sketches on vintage postcards that the gang picked up at the big Paris flea market while in town for Le Carnaval des Spectres. Can I get a hot damn?!

What’s even more exciting is that Brandt plans on having the real-deal Komic Kards as part of Posthumous Menagerie, his mini solo at Stranger Factory next month. So if you missed out on the Paris pack, another opportunity to score some sketch goodness awaits you in the new year!

Handpaint Elizabeths from Kathie Olivas for Circus Annual, 12.7

Chris Ryniak’s Nuggleworts will be in very good company at Stranger Factory’s annual holiday bash this Friday, with one heck of a sweet reveal dropped on CP’s Instagram this past weekend. Kathie Olivas will have a pair of abso-freaking-gorgeous handpainted Elizabeths at the show: Bear Hood and Masked. The weathering on their coats and hats just kills me. These gals stand 8 inches, just like the production Plasma and Honey versions we’ve seen.

Circus Annual opens this Friday (Dec. 7th) with a reception from 6 to 9pm. Time to get your gift on!!
