Break Me and I Break Your Finger: Andrew Bell’s ‘Kill Kat #1’ for Bewitching II

  • by

Last year, Andrew Bell absolutely NAILED Bewitching with his “Damned Corn” and “Bat Ball” sculpts. And now, the master of the delightfully dark and hilarious returns with the first-ever Kill-Kat, an obvious (albeit carnivorous) interpretation of the Kit-Kat candy bar. So think again before breaking off-a piece —  it’s all teeth beneath that chocolately treat!

Kill Kat # 1 stands 5.5 inches and includes a glass dome so you can sleep soundly at night. The magnetic melted base is removable and the wrapper is just awesome.

Bewitching II opens THIS FRIDAY at Stranger Factory! Roughly forty artists from all over the globe under one roof,  wielding their uber-artistry in the honor of Halloweenia. Prepare yourselves!

Dok A’s M.R. J. Blackwood for the “Postcard from New Yorkshire” Solo Show

  • by

Put away your Fifty Shades of Grey because this much better. Doktor A has created a work of pure entomological magic with the writer known as M.R. J. Blackwood for his solo show A Postcard from New Yorkshire at myplasticheart.

“Writer of pulp fiction, recluse and misanthrope. Montague weaves lurid tales of horror and dark fantasy for several small press magazines. He and his growing band of loyal readers consider his mini epics insightful literature. But the critics, such as his nemesis Oscar Lynchworthy pour scorn on his compositions and deride them as trash. But Blackwood knows he is doing great work and it is simply a matter of time before the world realises his genius”

The meticulousness that Dok has put forth in this show is astounding, and this one is no exception. The storytelling on the typewriter and the discarded paper around, and even the plated exoskeleton is precisely and properly executed. Once again, Dok a puts the bar high for himself.

The show opens on Oct. 12th from 7 – 10pm.

These May Be Cute but Not Suitable for Children, The Seedlings

  • by

As I am looking at these images to post, my colleague walks by and says “Those are cute seedlings”. Well that  just described this post! Taylored Curiosities aren’t making monster embryos this time, but Seedlings.
As described:
Seedlings are the tiny creatures that watch over your crops and flowers while they grow, but they are quite shy so you might not have seen them before.

These are my second fully sculpted toy design and are hand cast from an original sculpt with a hand sewn felt and wool sprout growing out of their heads. Slight differences will occur between Seedlings as they are entirely hand produced. Each is accompanied by an individually wrapped packet of seeds for you to plant.

These little creatures stand at 2cm from head to toe (not including sprout; which takes them up to approx 5cm) and are collectible, resin, figures. These are not suitable for children.”

The Seedlings can be found now at the store.

Ryniak Representing at Lucha Libre!

  • by

The masks are tied. The ring is roped. The tights are tight, and the eggs are flying. Eggs are flying?
Chris Ryniak is about to jump off the top rope into The Beast Brothers’s Lucha Libre! show at RotofugiThis big grinned sculpture is all about wrestling and eggs apparently. From all the development images we can see why this guy is so happy.

Lucha Libre! opens Oct. 5th! at Rotofugi in Chicago.

Leecifer for Bewitching II

Leecifer is on a roll this year! He came out swinging at SDCC, now Bewitching II, and later a show with Paul Kaiju. It makes us wonder if he will step into the ring with a Thunderlips down the road.

Lee has a trio of terror set for Bewitching II with the likes of the winged cart riding skelve known as Babette, a double faced Jack o’ Sal, and one of those drunk aliens with a magnetic grip, aka PickleBaby.

Bewitching II opens Oct. 5th with an opening reception from 6 to 9pm. The exhibit runs through Nov. 4th.

Oh Babette is awesome. A pig nosed bat skelve it seems. Flapping her wings as she rolls around on her little cart with a key to your heart. It would appear I have rhymes when I type sometimes.

It looks like Big Sal is just doing her  thing, but then BAM! it is a Jack O’ Sal. Two faces to cause two times the terror.

Is this the infamous alien race known as Picklebabies?

“Rumor has it one may have already escaped to the greater NM area as it was observed drinking in an Albuquerque bar and drunkenly demonstrating its alien physiology’s “magnetic grip” on small metal objects. Note not all PickleBabies demonstrate this ability.”

Brandt Peters’s ‘Conjured’ for Baby Tattooville’s ‘X in One’ Print

  • by

Beware, Baby Tattoovillers, because Brandt Peters is bringin’ some badass bedevilry to Riverside this weekend. Aside from the debut of CP’s new Lime Masaos,  Brandt’s contributing “Conjured”, a 5″x5″ acrylic, graphite and paper pulp piece for the annual “X in One” print. This little guy just reeks of mischief and I’m loving the subtle nod to of Stingy Jack with the neck ruffle.

In addition to the goodie bags, collectors receive an exclusive print that showcases artwork from all of of the artists who participated in that year’s retreat. Say hi to Travis and Audrey while they sign the 2009 edition below!

Baby Tattooville runs Oct. 5 to 7 at the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, CA.

FERG’s Zorcho the Burner is all squared away and ready to blaze with the reveal of the figure’s final detail: the packaging. Rockin’ a simple blister pack and card, the latter tells a bit (well, tries) about Zorcho, like how he has this totally radical roach clip and shit…

An edition of 50 pieces and retailing for $100 a hit,  these will be available at the DKE booth at DesignerCon as part of the Super Suck Up! The party’s on for one day and one day only — see you on Nov. 3rd in Pasadena!
