In ancient Ireland, the days began at sunset and the calendar year had 13 lunar cycles corresponding the the 13 menstrual cycles of a woman. The moon was associated with fertility, good luck and femininity. When Christianity pushed out some of the old beliefs, the moon garnered fearful superstitions including moonlight on your face while sleeping bringing about an untimely death or looking over your left shoulder at the moon being very unlucky. If it’s good luck you’re after, be sure to view the moon from over your RIGHT shoulder.
