Woodcuts, Dead Elves, and Snowmen…Tim Lee paints up for Winter Salon

  • by

Yesterday we announced Winter Salon III, and today we got a small preview into this yearly chilly event!
TIMLEEwipWe thought we would check in our buddy Tim Lee and see what he was up to, and he sent us over one image with a lot going on. Tim has jumped into sculpting some since his mega successful show at Stranger Factory earlier in the year, and from the looks of it, it is going great. We see Tim is working on a very eerie looking snowman that won’t be in any feel good claymation films soon. We also the beginning stages of some more woodcuts. Is that a dead reindeer skull and a dead elf I see? We love Tim’s work and will keep checking back with him to see how all these progress, but until then we will have to wait like a kid at Christmas.

Tim Lee gets Bewitched!

  • by

He floored us with his work last June, and now Tim Lee is coming back to Stranger Factory for Bewitching III!

Since Tim’s work already has a magical Halloween vibe at times, his work crossing over to the Bewitching group show seemed like a perfect meeting of two great minds. One of his pieces for the show titled “Funbox” holds a bounty of mystery inside. Does it hold a fiendish trick or an ever so sweet treat? We might have to wait until the opening on October 11th to find, but it is tempting to look inside now!

RECAP: ‘The Shape of Art: How Not To Be Square’ Workshop

  • by

One of the best things about opening weekends at Stranger Factory (besides awesome art, delicious doughnuts, and the grinning faces of the Stranger Factory crew) are the fantastic art workshops offered every month. This month, a sculpting and lecture workshop – The Shape of Art: How Not To Be Square – by Valency and Tim Lee, was no exception.

During the workshop, both Valency and Tim discussed their process with developing and working with three dimensional platforms – Valency with her taxidermy mounts, and Tim with his hand cut wood shapes.

Lots of tips and tricks were shared, as well as lots of bad jokes and cookies. In the image below, Katie, the new Stranger Factory assistant, is to the left, sculpting a pretty lacey texture. The lower half of Tim Lee is in the background, discussing his process. Mikee is Mikee.

RECAP: Tim Lee, Valency Genis and Bob Dob at Stranger Factory

Another month, another opening, but this one was special because Brad and I were there. Just kidding, I’m not that egoistical. Valency Genis and Tim Lee were both present and in rare form, filling the walls with a display of colourful creatures, forest spirits and snarky demons. The gallery itself was buzzing all night, and we entertained visitors and fans from hundreds of miles away!

As usual, the night was accompanied by a custom decorated sugar high, courtesy of Rebel Donuts. Read on for opening images and silly captions!

More from Tim Lee’s DONE GONE

Spirit-GuideTim Lee is at it again for his show “Done Gone.” This time, we see a full reveal of a piece he has for the show. This piece is titled “Spirit Guide,” and is painted on constructed wood panels. We love the pumpkin skull head atop another creature’s wooden antlers as it is guided through the forest. The earth tone colors are perfect for this woodsy feel piece on wood! Plus, look at the grin on that big fella!

We will have more from Tim and all the artists for the June show at Stranger Factory as it gets closer to the opening in two weeks, so stay tuned.

Tim Lee fuels art with the basic food “groups”

Basic-food-groups

Today, we get to see another work in progress shot from Tim Lee for his show “Done Gone” at Stranger Factory this June. Another wood cut is taking shape, and it also looks like Tim is fueling his creative mind with the most basic of food groups (wheat). This fuel is most definitely working, so keep it up, Tim.

The work still isn’t finished yet, but the earth tones and colors work perfectly with the wood grain so far.  We are rapidly taking in the impressive work from Tim, because this show stands to be absolutely impressive, and we only have three more weeks to go!

Tim Lee is all Thumbs

  • by

thumbsTim Lee’s work  for “Done Gone” has definitely sparked interest around these parts. From the workbench, it appears as if Tim is utilizing and transforming undervalued and easily overlooked materials – bringing life into hand cut wood shapes! It all looks fun, striking, special and memorable.

This original piece looks to be one of the wood cuts all painted and ready to hit a tavern, if all those thumbs don’t spill the whiskey. The rusty coral shades contrast the piercing electric steel blue in the eyes and enhance the western theme we all love. We can’t wait to see more from Tim!

Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder!

AbsintheI love being exposed to new artists (new to me) that make me say “whoa, this rules!”, and such is definitely the case with Tim LeeI get stoked with every teaser image that comes into my inbox, and to say I am excited for “Done Gone“ at Stranger Factory is an understatement.

The above piece, titled “Absinthe,” brings the much loved green fairy from the bottle to life, but you will be probably be able to remember her the next morning. Her gaze screams “are you gonna finish that?”. Tim’s folky-pop style is a perfect blend, and we love him here at Stranger Factory. Bring it on, Tim!
