Glenn is now raising the Barr

IMG_8931With the opening night on Friday, July 5th looming, we have many pieces that we can’t wait to show you from all the artists, and we thought we’d continue with some from Glenn Barr. Last week, we showed you some early drafts of what Glenn has in store for July, and now we have a much more detailed look into that body of work.

Glenn has an assortment of smaller pieces that should be priced just right for many pocket books! The color palette and theme is classic Barr with the dark undertones, and lovely ladies gracing every one of the canvases. The development from the original concepts from last week are amazing, and fortunately, we don’t have to wait long to see the finished products!

Glenn Barr’s exhibit along with Phil Noto and Colin Christian runs July 5th – July 28th, with an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 9 PM at Stranger Factory.

(ed. note: I cannot believe Brad’s awful pun in that title. 5 points to Hufflepuff.)

Glenn Barr’s plan for July

IMG_3859With our continued coverage of the July show at Stranger Factory, we now have an image of Glenn Barr‘s work table!

The above image reads like a storyboard. Of course, every one of the images has one of Barr’s beautiful female figures. It looks like we’ll be seeing some of his classic sci-fi elements, at least in the top three sketches, and we’re pretty excited about it! We will see how the finished products turn out shortly, but for now, these should whet your appetite.

Glenn Barr’s exhibit along with Phil Noto and Colin Christian runs July 5th – July 28th, with an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 9 PM at Stranger Factory.

Get ready for the much loved vixens of Glenn Barr this July at Stranger FactoryFor now, we anxiously wait to dive into Glenn’s fantastic fantasy world filled with amazing creatures, aberrant technology, and sumptuous maidens.

We get a small respite while viewing the works as they unfold with this sketch for a new painting by Glenn. A bomb and a bombshell at the helm of an animalistic machine is classic Barr to us. This piece on the drawing table is just a baby step for what will come, and we know what will come will be epic!

Glenn Barr’s exhibit along with Phil Noto and Colin Christian runs July 5th – July 28th, with an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 9 PM at Stranger Factory.

Phil Noto, Colin Christian and Glenn Barr at Stranger Factory in July!

  • by

July 2013 brings three new exhibits to the Stranger Factory gallery by artists Colin Christian, Glenn Barr, and Phil Noto. Press images and additional artist information are available upon request from our Press Manager, Steve Brown.

Legendary pop surrealism artist Glenn Barr is excited to present a new body of work at Stranger Factory. His paintings channel the bizarre landscapes of a retro future, populated by strong, bold women inspired by 60’s soul singers, comic book heroines, and pinup girls. With his bold strokes and deft use of a minimalistic color palette, Barr’s work is singular amongst his peers.

Comic artist and painter Phil Noto creates some of the most elegant portraits of remarkable women. With a keen eye for the female form and an uncanny ability to paint the most arresting eyes, Noto’s work is captivating. His comic book covers are among the best in the industry, and his gallery work is quickly becoming a favorite among both casual and serious collectors.

Colin Christian is world-renowned for his super-realistic and oversized sculptures. His remarkable masks have been exhibited all over the world, and his enormous full-body sculptures have stolen the show at fairs such as Art Basel Miami. A hyper-sexualized realization of futuristic longing and anime form, Christian’s work is flawless and impossible to look away from.

We hope to see you at Stranger Factory in July!

All three exhibits run July 5th – August 4th, with an opening reception on Friday, July 5th from 6 – 9 PM.

Travis Louie & Glenn Barr for Lyric 2 @ 323East Gallery

  • by

Glenn Barr’s second spin of his popular LP-inspired art show, Lyric, opened last weekend at 323East Gallery in Royal Oak, Michigan. Much like last year’s exhibition, participating artists were appointed the task of creating a 12×12″ piece of art (i.e. the size of a record cover) inspired by a song of their choice.

For Travis Louie, it was all about Sheb Wooley’s 1958 classic, ‘Purple People Eater’. His interpretation of said beastlie is captured above in graphite. (It’s also still available — grab it here!)

Glenn Barr’s choice was a bit more current — an acrylic on wood piece inspired by Velvet Underground’s ‘Lisa Says’. The piece is sold.

Other artists participating in the show include Luke Chueh, Camilla d’Errico, Revok, Brett Amory, Eimi, Matt Eaton, Beau Stanton, Ron Zakrin, Tom Thewes, Tristan Eaton, Chikuwaemil, Shojonotomo, Mark Heggie, BASK, Ray Domzalski, Jeff Soto, Rick Morris, Chet Zar, Mark Dancy, Joey Seeman, THH70, Bryan Cunningham, William Wray, Davin Brainard, Daniel Peacock, David Diavu Vecchiato, Robert Nixon, Matt Gordon, Casey Weldon, Erik Otto, Martha Rich, John Dunivant, Derek Hess, Chris Dean, Dan Armand, April Segedi, Made514, Chris Reccardi and more!

Show’s on until May 21st; stop by if your travels take you through the fine state of Michigan!
