Last-Minute Eye Candy from KO & BP for Stranger Factory’s Holiday Hoedown

  • by

Circus Annual is already upon us and before the festivities get into full swing tonight, we figure we’d toss a few more gumdrops ’cause these pics are too sweet to pass up. Right off the top, we have gorgeousness from Brandt Peters, Kathie Olivas and DrilOne, with (from left): an Ooze Skull, custom Skelve, SD201 Red Star Drone and a custom Greeter Skelve that is guaranteed to spark an internet-wide riot.

And just in case those gorgeous Elizabeth handpaints from last week weren’t enough, Kathie will also have a 17″ Lizzie in the show. Yep. Anyone have a drool bucket? Hang it off my ears.

And this was the arrow through the heart for me: Brandt will have a small series of 6- and 8-inch wood pieces featuring a few of our favourite characters, new and old (wait till you see Slap-Happy!). But enough teasing: on to the preview! Many pieces still need to be added today and through the weekend, but there’s still a ton of goodness to ogle in the meantime. Allons-y!!

Leecifer’s Bringin’ the Aliens to Albuquerque for Circus Annual, 12.7

  • by

Now this is our kind of apocalypse party! CP customizer Leecifer is bringing an alien invasion to Albuquerque for Circus Annual, opening next Friday at Stranger Factory. Indeed, Big Sal has been given the Leecifer treatment with his trademark bold colours and steel wool-style paint application. Loving the addition of the Greeter-style spiral noses, as well. The Sals will also be joined by a few custom Stingy Jacks, including the remaining Candy Corns Jacks that debuted earlier this month at DesignerCon.

Circus Annual opens Dec. 7th with a reception from 6 to 9pm. Show’s on until the end of the month!

Chris Ryniak’s Nuggleworts for Circus Annual @ Stranger Factory 12.7

Chris Ryniak is switching things up a bit this year for Circus Posterus’s annual winter group exhibition at Stranger Factory: instead of customizing pre-existing sculpts, he’s casting his very own critters! That’s right, Ryniak has become something of his own production house: the molds, the pouring, the pulling, the cleaning, the painting, all overseen entirely by the artist. So what’s first to come sneaking out from the monster dungeon? Why, Nuggleworts, dear boy! You may recall the brief teaser we posted a couple months back, or the small run he did for Septenary back in July. Well, these little dudes are BACK and a herd of six, 6-inch one-offs are making their way to the Factory next month for Circus Annual. The show kicks off Dec. 7th with a reception from 6-9pm; stick around for more sneak peeks of the exhibit as we draw closer to the date.

FERG’s ‘Zorcho the Burner’ for the Super Suck Up! @ DCON, 11.3

Oh hot damn. In early August we posted a quickie teaser of what FERG had in the works for Sucklord’s Super Suck Up! and the Squadt mastermind just revealed the finished product: Zorcho the Burner. A mash-up of FERG’s flame BUD and a Sucklord bootleg, Zorcho is cast in what looks like honey-colored plastic with a custom cape and insane prosthetic pincer arm.

Available at the DKE booth during DesignerCon Nov. 3rd, Zorcho is an edition of just 50 figures and will retail for $100 a pop. Freaking swoon.

Travis Louie’s Brady Bunch of Stan Customs for Le Carnaval, 9.13

  • by

A few days ago, Travis Louie gave us a taster of a couple Stan Skelves that he was working on for Le Carnaval des Spectres, opening next Thursday at Artoyz Paris. Well, damn, when Travis promises Stans, we get Stans: a whole Brady Bunch of ’em! Each of these dapper gents are one-of-a-kind and handpainted by Travis. They’ll retail for $950 each.

Funny: I wonder how many little slippers and moustaches Travis has littered about his studio; this batch is goin’ bare foot and that’s one freshly-shaved pickle if I ever saw one. (Travis refuses to eat pickles that have moustaches, by the way. But he’s perfectly OK with eyeballs.)

Le Carnaval des Spectres opens Sept. 13 through Oct. 20th at Artoyz Shop + Galerie in Paris, France. The exhibition marks CP’s first group exhibition on European soil and features a collection of new two- and three-dimensional works from Kathie OlivasBrandt PetersTravis LouieChris RyniakAmanda Louise Spayd and Teodoru Badiu.

A Herd of Custom Wippos from Teodoru Badiu for Le Carnaval, 9.13

  • by

Following last week’s Instagram teasers, Teodoru Badiu has since put the finishing touches on his handsome herd of Wippos, due to embark on their trek to Artoyz Paris for Le Carnaval very soon! From left, say hello to Espirit Bleu, Fantome Green, Ame Noir, Rugueux Rouge and a second Espirit Bleu to round out the bunch.

After seeing these and the Dark Wippo test handpaint a few months back (below), the level of anticipation for these is off the hook. Bring on the edition!!

Travis Louie’s Custom Stan Skelves for Le Carnaval des Spectres, 9.13

With Le Carnaval des Spectres opening at Artoyz Paris in just under two weeks, Travis Louie is finally indulging us in what he has planned for the CP group exhibition. Kicking things off are a pair of custom Stan Skelves, who are sporting some pretty snazzy Cyclops eyes. “Here we spend all this time planning and perfecting [the eyes] and I’m scraping all that off and painting them entirely from scratch,” Travis laughs over the phone from his studio in Red Hook, NY. “I’m a lot happier with this batch … I feel like I’ve finally figured out how to paint these.”

Travis anticipates having nine custom Stans for the show, along with some small paintings. In other words: we have a lot to look forward to. Save your pennies!

Le Carnaval des Spectres opens Sept. 13th through Oct. 20th at Artoyz Shop + Galerie in Paris, France. The exhibition includes new works from Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Chris Ryniak, Amanda Louise Spayd, Teodoru Badiu and, of course, Mr. Travis Louie.

Doktor A’s ‘Ophelia Grimm’ for A Postcard from New Yorkshire, 10.12

  • by

Doktor A has just put the finishing touches on all of the dimensional pieces for his upcoming solo show at myplasticheart this October, A Postcard from New Yorkshire. First to be revealed is this stunning original, Ophelia Grimm:

Chronic nyctophobe, Ophelia is terrified of the dark. Sadly, her grand house was inherited from an eccentric uncle who built it without windows, so she was forced to squander her fortunes on candles…

Miss Ophelia stands 9.5″ tall, or 11.5″ with the vintage brass dome. She and the (seriously impressive) candles are crafted from vinyl, ABS, rubber, lead, glass, styrene, polymer clay, vintage draughtsman’s tools & clock key, and other repurposed treasures.

A Postcard from New Yorkshire opens at MPH during NYCC weekend, Oct. 12, and is on view until Nov. 11th.

KO & BP’s Frostbite 4-Legged Masao for Spectrum 5.18

And the juicy teasers continue to drop: Kathie Olivas and Brandt Peters have a whole tickle trunk of tricks up their sleeves for Spectrum, including the debut of the Frostbite 4 Legged Masao. Oh the mayhem … *steeples fingers* … >:)

Pretty much loving everything about the Frostbite; the eyes, the colour: it feels like it’s been ages since we’ve seen a hand painted blue release (I’m more partial to this than the indigo resin). If this edition is being handled in typical CP fashion, a handful of the Frostbites will be at the Con, with the rest releasing online or through the messageboards at a later date. Stoked over here.

Spectrum Fantastic Art Live is on this Friday through Sunday at the Kansas City Convention Centre in Kansas City, MO. Event’s in Bartle Hall and CP is stationed at booth #919 near the main stage. CAN YOU HANDLE IT?!
