The Conjuring Misfits Contest!

This month, we want to see how far our misfits have traveled and how unique each one is! Whether it’s Elizabeth on an exciting European adventure, or the Pullcart Skelve enjoying a wintery sled ride, or even just a Skelve shopping for warm wool socks, we want to know the secret lives of our misfits that are now spread far and wide.

How to Enter:

  • To enter the Conjuring Misfits contest, show us what our misfits have been up to! Take a photograph of a Skelve or Wandering Misfit in your hometown, or getting up to some mischief! Illustrate a Wandering Misfit up to no good, or in some fascinating locale! Make a short video, write a song…just about any sort of creative contribution is valid, as long as it incorporates either a Skelve, or a Wandering Misfit character.
  • Post your entry on this Sideshow thread, on the Circus Posterus forum!
  • Feel free to post on Instagram as well(#skelvecontest), but only images posted on the forum thread will qualify – we need to be able to find them!

  • This contest will be judged by Brandt Peters and Kathie Olivas.
  • We will announce the winner on the Circus Posterus forum on May 12th, 2014.

Prizes:

First place receives a  $100 gift certificate, good towards one purchase at Stranger Factory/Circus Posterus.

AND 4 runner ups will receive A Wandering Misfits exclusive of their choice.

Deadline: May 9th, 2014

Well, color me blood red and call me dumbfounded because Joe Scarano just floored me for  Deadeyes!

We will reveal more of the Grimleys that Shing wrote about tomorrow, but today we have two finished pieces from the amazing show!

Up first “Circling the Drain”. A grayscale creepy masterpiece which looks like how probably most feel post Mardi Gras last night!
Circling_The_Drain_150Now for a mega splash of color, “I’ll show you all my tricks”. These happy cartoon characters are living the life!
Ill_Show_You_All_My_Tricks_cropped_150See them in person at Deadeyes running March 7th – 30th, with an opening reception on Friday, March 7th from 6 – 9 PM.

Many thanks to all our friends who braved the chilly Chicago weather to come hang out with us at Rotofugi last Saturday night! The show is now up and available for purchase – check out the show preview right here.

Above is Brandt Peters’ and Kathie Olivas’ Spiritus Canis, a 15″ resin and found object piece that is still available. I call it the “Sausage Skelve” in my head – don’t tell them that.

Black Widow #1

  • by

I’m sure that everyone already knows about Phil Noto’s brilliant comics work, but just in case you happen to have just seen his paintings at Stranger Factory and nowhere else, I feel it absolutely necessary to tell you that Black Widow #1 is on shelves RIGHT NOW(well, as of last Wednesday).

Illustrated by Noto, and written by Nathan Henry Edmondson, they manage to imbue Natasha Romanov with a rare humanity for the character.

Black-Widow-3

For us Noto fans, getting to see 22 pages of his work every few weeks is a genuine treat, but the large scale paintings he’ll be exhibiting at Stranger Factory promise to be absolutely amazing as well.

Black Widow #2 comes out next Wednesday(Jan 22), and Phil Noto’s show at Stranger Factory opens on February 7th.

FERG for Trigger II

  • by

Ferg’s landed in Albuquerque and we hear that he and Brandt are busy curating their show for the opening tomorrow! Here’s a final look at a Terror Boy before the doors open tomorrow!

Follow Brandt(@brandtpeters) and Ferg(@fergbag) on Instagram for more sneak peeks before the opening tomorrow!

Trigger II runs January 10th – February 2nd, with an opening reception on Friday, January 10th from 6 – 9 PM.

Trouble’s gotten bigger!

  • by

The sneak previews of Trigger II continue over at Brandt Peters’ Instagram feed, and this time we got a peek into Brandt’s studio, where a bevy of Squadt and Trouble Boy heads are resting happily.

Most notable though, are those drawings in the background! They’re huge! As Brandt says – “Those pinups in the background are life size 1:1 – I never have worked this large with my drawings and I am hooked!”

If you haven’t signed up yet for the Character Design Workshop being taught by Brandt and Ferg, there are still a few spots left!

Amanda’s Cookie Decorating Contest!

  • by

Calling all people…who like cookies!

Amanda Spayd is hosting a contest over at the Circus Posterus forums, and this time, you’re going to have to flex your decorating skills!

Amanda says –

Here are the rules:

1) Create a profile on the Circus Posterus forum, if you don’t have one already.

2) Decorate as many cookies as you want – just keep to a Circus Posterus theme (derive your inspiration from my artwork, or the art stylings of any of our artists, like Chris Ryniak, Kathie Olivas, etc. See the “Artists” section for more ideas!).

***The only limitation is that all your cookies must be edible – no cheating using paints or clays, they must be food!

3) Take a picture of your masterpiece(s) and post them on the forum, in the “December Cookie Contest” thread here. If you have trouble posting, the boardies are always super helpful, but you can always just post a link to where we can all admire it.

4) Have a beverage of your choice and toast to yourself for your hard work.

5) At the end of the month, I’ll choose a winner! Remember, this isn’t about how “accurate” or “realistic” the cookie looks – you can score points with me by being really creative in what you decorate with, how you take your photo, what kind of cookie, etc. Just be creative and have fun!

I’m BAD at decorating cookies, so I look forward to being impressed by everyone else’s skills :)

The prize is a holiday goodie bag from Amanda, including this original drawing!

What are you waiting for? Get baking*!

*baking not actually required, but decorating is.
