Scott Radke sends in the Pink Clown

  • by Brad
  • April 1, 2013March 27, 2013

We have seen many forms and shapes for Scott Radke‘s “Interface””, and now we have another resplendent creation that is simply jaw dropping. Titled “Pink Clown“, this sitting jester is adorned in an elaborate stripe and swirl burlap cloth design, lending to its rough-edged medieval feel. The trademark sculpted face is amazed and bewildered as it gazes upon a lush and delightfully detailed gold ornamental egg.  The appeal of this piece will stretch many boundaries, and there is still more to come from Scott.

RadkeSkelve1We gave you a teaser earlier on some Skelves Scott Radke is working on for his show at Stranger Factory, and now we are pleased to fully reveal three of them! Scott takes the classic Skelve platform and combines it with his own defined style to create a brand new Skelve look. The Radke Skelves are both familiar and new, but they are undeniably mysterious and charming. And the details – that pointy burlap cap, perfect little painted heart and tiny rivets! Scott will have numerous Skelves available for the show, and so we don’t spoil it, we are only showing you a small sample. These faces grow even more expressive with each look, so study them carefully!

Radke again

What does Scott Radke have in store for “Interface“? Is this a dinosaur, an elf, or gnome…or something else from the realm of Radke? We added some swirly, twirly, icing to the image to help keep a little secret, but whatever it is, it seems like there may be a few of them migrating to New Mexico in April! Keep checking the Circus Posterus blog because we will have the full reveal soon!

The haunting faces of Scott Radke

  • by Brad
  • March 18, 2013March 13, 2013

eeyore-3

Scott Radke is certainly known for his glorious burlap and clay renditions of animals, humans and other hauntingly delicate and earthy things. But the crowning glory of his work – the element that leaps out and keeps you looking(or unable to tear your eyes away) – are the beautiful and poignantly expressive faces on his sculpts.

The faces Scott Radke creates are alternately sorrowful, longing, coy, anxious, or an indeterminate mix of all – or none – of the above. In fact, the faces his burlap minions wear may even change, almost imperceptibly, based on how the light hits, the angle. of viewing…and maybe just how you’re feeling that day.

We can’t wait to show you more from Radke’s stellar show in April(but we will). Check back often to see what this wizard has up his sleeve!

We aren’t going to let anyone sit back too long this year because Stranger Factory has three new solo exhibitions coming in April from renowned artists Kathie Olivas, Scott Radke, and Stephen Webb. Get ready!

sf_homepageslide_apr_olivas

“Scout” finds Kathie Olivas searching for simplicity with a solo exhibit of new portraits, studies, customs, and original sculpts. This new show finds her simplifying her approach, and allowing the beauty of the individual to take the viewer’s focus as they join her and her creations in the search for the small truths in a larger world.

Kathie Olivas is an internationally exhibited multi-media artist from New Mexico. Through her current body of work she explores society’s insatiable desire to assign ‘cuteness’ and our discomfort with the unknown. A dark blend of early American portraiture set in post apocalyptic times, Kathie’s paintings and custom toys are a satirical look at how fear affects our sense of reality.

Scott Radke‘s “Interface” features original sculpts and a few customized Skelve figures by the enigmatic artist. His work is highly-sought after, incredibly detailed, and is at once comforting and unsettling. His creations evoke sympathy in the viewer, while hinting at a larger world beneath the surface of our own.

Scott Radke is a Cleveland-based artist who works from his subconscious imagery. Specializing in mixed media sculpture and animal/human hybrid explorations, his work is highly influenced by his affinity for nature. His work can be found from London to Los Angeles in major art collections, and even making cameo appearances in such films as Walt Disney’s Academy award-winning Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton.

Stephan Webb‘s “Evolutionary End Game” will feature a new series of detailed bronze sculptures from this unique artist. Webb’s artwork takes a surrealistic view of biological and evolutionary processes, and utilizes the medium of metal casting and sculpture as a commentary on the fabricated nature of our surroundings.

Stephan’s artwork constantly juxtaposes biological forms and figures with harsh geometric shapes and the coldness of metal to engage the viewer in a conversation about the roles that nature and technology play in our lives and to seek a harmonious balance between the two. Webb exhibits primarily in New Mexico, and is an emerging artist building a dedicated fan and collector base. This will be his third exhibit with Stranger Factory.

Keep an eye here for updates and sneaks from the upcoming show. To ensure you are on the preview list, please visit www.strangerfactory.com and sign up for email alerts. This three person exhibit opens Friday, April 5th with a reception from 6-8pm.

Owls, Dogs & Elephants, Oh My: Stunning New Commissions from Scott Radke

  • by Brad
  • November 30, 2012January 28, 2013

If you’re like me and have been waiting forever for your own Scott Radke commission, my friends, our time has come! For the last month or so, Scott has been on a tear, striking off many a collector’s bucket lists with owls, dogs and — get this — an ELEPHANT. I figured Scott had done it all, but that … that’s a first.

Fashioned from clay and burlap, the sculptures all stand around the 20-inch mark. If you’re looking to get something done by Scott, email him at scott@scottradke.com. Scott will also be exhibiting with Kathie Olivas and Stephen Webb at Stranger Factory in April 2013, so be sure to mark your calendars for that, as well!

Remember those wall-mount squashes that Scott Radke teased us with last week? Well they’ve doned their face paint and are now up for grabs via Scott’s website. A run of six unique pieces, each clay sculpt is about 9″ x 4″. Five are available. Email Scott at scott@scottradke.com if you want to add a little flair to your decor this Thanksgiving.

New Swan and Gourdy Goodness from Scott Radke

  • by Brad
  • October 17, 2012January 28, 2013

Scott Radke continues with his Elf-like animal hybrids with a stunning collection of Swans, now available on his website. Looking on with the curiously vacant gaze present in all of Scott’s work, these gentle creatures long for a place to call home. Of the trio, Swans #80 and #81 remain. Each sculpture sits around 14 inches high and 11 inches long. Email Scott at scott@scottradke.com if you’re looking to adopt.

And just in time for the harvest are a small group of gourds, due to emerge from the earth anytime now. Each of the wall-mount sculpts is about 9 inches tall and 4 inches wide, and all are unique. The Jack-o’-lantern style face works really well on these — those beady eyes see right through you. More news as soon as the paint flies!

August Magic from Scott Radke

  • by Brad
  • August 19, 2012January 29, 2013

I know I’ve said this dozens of times, but Scott Radke’s work just amazes me. It’s curious, emotive, delicate and beautiful. For me, it promotes a feeling of peace and balance and if I had to choose only one sculpture to grace my work space, it’d be my Radke.

With that said, if you’ve been waiting to add a Radke sprite to your creative space, now’s your chance. New to Scott’s shop for August is “Untitled” (pink) and “Untitled #2” (green). The former stands 12 inches and is available for $375, while her green companion is 10.5 inches and $350.

Guaranteed one of these have given your heartstrings a little tug, or — at the very least — have made you stop a moment to stare. Enjoy it. And if either is ‘the one’ for you, drop Scott a line at scott@scottradke.com … they’re a steal and you’d be doing your soul good. Trust me!
