Shing nerds out about Phil Noto

  • by

Today, Brad was all “Hey, can you fill in on a Noto post” and I was thinking “Really, you want me to let even more nerd out on this perfectly respectable blog?”

Anyway, one of my favourite Noto things of all time was this goofy thing he did last year of a whole bunch of candid superhero moments. Aside from being irrepressibly charming, and hilarious, I’m now stuck playing “who is this superhero?” with Noto’s paintings, even if there’s definitely no superhero involved at all. For instance, we featured “Viper” on Monday, and it was exceptionally difficult to not think of a certain redheaded spy that I love to death(unlike Stranger Factory store director Mikee Riggs, who prefers Mockingbird, for some inconceivable reason).

In a totally related note, Black Widow #3 is out today – go to your local comic book store and buy 22 pages of Phil’s gorgeous comic book.

Let’s be clear – I love Phil Noto’s comics work, but his paintings are something else altogether. He is a capital P Painter, the kind that makes you gasp at his mastery of both the medium and the subject. Also, Phil sent along another handful of works in progress, and this one’s my current favourite. Sassy women with guns – what’s not to love? Also, I’m gonna squint and pretend she’s Janet Van Dyne.

Nerd, signing off now.

Time to “Terrorize” with Jim Mahfood

  • by

With the opening only three days away, it is time to “Terrorize” with another piece by Jim Mahfood forPerfect Machine“!

“Terrorize” is yet another astounding work by Mahfood. The splashes of color, controlled chaos, street lettering, and sensuality, are one(well, four) of the many reasons we love Jim’s work.
We can’t wait to see it in person!

Jim Mahfood’s “Perfect Machine”  runs February 7th – March 2nd, with an opening reception on Friday, February 7th from 6 – 9 PM.

Katie Carillo preps for the Traveling Circus at Rotofugi

  • by

Before the “Traveling Circus” starts its caravan to Rotofugi in Chicago, we still have plenty more to show you.

IMG_20140123_223337_652This time, we are pleased to show you what is developing in the studio of the gifted Katie Carillo. Our beloved Katie has an aptitude for painting natural and serene beauty with unnatural and turbulent settings. This peaceful fawn rests in a small patch of grass while the topographical backdrop of an urban city resides behind it – a perfect blending of rural and urban environments.  Katie is still tucked away in her studio for now, but we will see the finished piece soon!

See all the amazing work when Circus Posterus’ “Traveling Circus” at Rotofugi opens February 15 through March 9th.

Chris Ryniak AMA (ask me anything) this Sunday!

  • by

AMAWe are starting something new on the Circus Posterus Forums this week with the first in a long list of artist AMA chats (ask me anything). Collectors, friends, and followers from all over the world can have access to our artists and ask them those questions that have been plaguing their minds for weeks(years? decades?).

Our first victim is none other than Chris Ryniak!

This is how it all goes down:

  • The AMA will start on Sunday, February 9 at 9pm Central with a new forum thread started.
  • Log in and start asking Chris questions via the forum after the introduction.
  • Chris will answer what he can for one hour on the forum.
  • Prepare your questions ahead of time.
  • Try to ask one part questions so he can answer as many people’s questions as possible in the time allotted.
  • Try to avoid easy questions that can be answered by doing some shallow internet digging.

So, start thinking up those questions, and we will see you right here on Sunday.

More amazing Circus Posterus artists in the works too!

Noto’s Viper

ViperA great way to start off a Monday is another progress image from Phil Noto’s “Full Disclosure”.

This is still a work in progress from Phil, but it already has his amazing style flowing through it. The beautiful female face is coupled with a haunting expression and longing gaze. For the time being, we know this is called “Viper”, but we shall see the finished work this Friday when “Full Disclosure” opens at Stranger Factory.

Phil Noto’s “Full Disclosure”  run February 7th – March 2nd, with an opening reception on Friday, February 7th from 6 – 9 PM. Phil be attending the opening.
