Septenary Group Sculpture Show @ OhNo!Doom 7.7

Now THIS is interesting. Ms. Lana “Plushinator” Crooks, needle ninja of OhNo!Doom, recently posted this postcard on her Facebook page stating: “… oh and I am curating (am in) this sculpture show on July 7th.”

Amanda Louise Spayd, Chris Ryniak, Melita “Miss Monster” Curphy, Jake Waldron, Melissa Sue Stanley  and J.Shea are all tagged in the photo.

Dear lord, is this another Imaginary Menagerie-esque barnburner in our midst? Because that lineup is bound to melt faces and savings accounts and any ounce of self restraint you may think you have.

I’ll be keeping a very close eye on this — details are still emerging, folks, so keep it locked!

Three New Ladies from Scott Radke

New from Scott Radke is an ensemble of three hauntingly beautiful ladies who are now available for purchase. Looking pretty in pink, each whimsical sprite is crafted from burlap, clay and twigs and stands about 26″ high. For pricing and availability, contact Scott at scott@scottradke.com.

A Whole Whack of Stuff from Amanda Louise Spayd

  • by

Whoa. Amanda Louise Spayd is in full production mode over there in Ohio with all sorts of goodies in the works. First: those pendants we were talking about two weeks ago. Mandi has decided to go full steam ahead with the project (yay!) and they will be released soon — likely through her shop. We’ll release details on this as soon as they’re revealed. Exciting? Exciting!

Next up are new critters! No word on when or where these will be released, but maybe we have another online release in our midst? Loving the forehead embellishments on these — you can see the previously-announced Bee critter on the far left and also below:

Bzz bzzt!

Now this is curious … a small Col-Erase critter for a top secret project that she can’t yet divulge. The aquamarine eyes are killing me, so beautiful. Very excited to see where this leads; Amanda’s 2D work is like dessert to me.

And just in case that wasn’t enough newsplosion for one evening … a local PBS affiliate paid a visit to Studio Spayd a couple days ago to do a quick TV segment about her work. For serious! We’ll be sure to post it up here as soon as it hits the air.

More on ALL of this very soon! Damn, girl — you’re quick with this world domination stuff!!

CP Sofubi: Kathie’s Calliope Jackalope Finished in Wax

  • by

The CP x Tomenosuke sofubi vinyl project continues to blaze along with an update from Shinji that Kathie OlivasCalliope Jackalope is now finished in wax and will be moving into the molding phase!

For those unfamiliar with the process, the cone-like extremities on each of the figure’s parts is flashing, which is used help extract the figure from the mold. It’s then cut away when the figure is assembled. As you can see, the Jackalope is a more complex sofubi figure as it comes in multiple parts: head, body, legs, ears, hat and tail.

To get a sense of what’s next, check out this video from Andy of Kaiju Korner. He recently had the opportunity to visit a small sofubi production house in Tokyo. Prepare for the chemical bath, dear Calliope!

Chris Ryniak’s Bug-Eyed Bee Commission

  • by

Your daily dose of cute on this fine Tuesday comes compliments of Chris Ryniak, whose latest Bee commission is about as adorable as it is severely confused. There’s some serious wandering eye syndrome going on, here or he’s dizzy from flying in circles).

Fashioned from a Skelve body and KO bird head, this little bee is on its way to a collector with a refined taste for buzzers. ;)
